Not sure how long this'll last, but here's an attempt at bringing back the weekly IJ Top 10, sticking with the old rules from pre-2001 (i.e. UK Top 40 only) for now:
Obviously because this is the first chart they're all 'new entries', but I've given actual new songs precedence over ones that have been round a while.
1 (NEW) I FOUGHT THE LLOYDS - Oystar 2 (NEW) NOW YOU'RE GONE - Basshunter 3 (NEW) MOVING TO NEW YORK - Wombats 4 (NEW) THIS IS THE LIFE - Amy McDonald 5 (NEW) SHE'S SO LOVELY - Scouting For Girls 6 (NEW) WAVING FLAGS - British Sea Power 7 (NEW) ABOUT YOU NOW - Sugababes 8 (NEW) RELAX, TAKE IT EASY - Mika 9 (NEW) HEY THERE DELILAH - Plain White T's 10 (NEW) WHAT HURTS THE MOST - Cascada

Good to see this back All of #4 to #9 have made it into my chart, and #3 will be entering it next week, so at least 7/10 I'll check out the other three when I get the chance.

Great to see this, hope you'll keep it up, I'll use it for the Haven Combi Chart. I like these. 3 (NEW) MOVING TO NEW YORK - Wombats 4 (NEW) THIS IS THE LIFE - Amy McDonald 5 (NEW) SHE'S SO LOVELY - Scouting For Girls 6 (NEW) WAVING FLAGS - British Sea Power 7 (NEW) ABOUT YOU NOW - Sugababes 8 (NEW) RELAX, TAKE IT EASY - Mika Not bad at all. So songs only chart if they make the Top 40, must be annoying if you like a song and it only reaches #41?

I might change the rules because the (actual) chart moves so slowly compared to the old-days (pre-downloads). It used to be annoying when a good song just missed the top 40. I was tempted to bend the rules a couple of times, e.g. one I still remember from 1997: Arkarna - 'So Little Time' (#46).

I remember your old "top 40" rule but now the chart is so much slower, as you say. In fact 2007 was only the second time that I had more #1s than the UK chart (1992 was the other occasion). Perhaps you should allow top 75 hits.
Of those in your chart I particularly like Amy MacDonald (#2 in my most recent chart) and British Sea Power (one of my highest new entries). I prefer "Lollipop" to "Relax (Take It Easy)", the difference significant enough that I haven't credited them as double-A. I decided to do that only when the two were sufficiently equal in merit.
Funny you mention 1997 because that was the last year in which every song from my chart reached the UK top 40. Singles in positions 41-75 were eligible but I didn't chart any. I was using the UK top 40 as my main source and didn't really listen to much outside except for album tracks, and I bought a lot more albums back then. There were also sufficiently enough UK top 40 hits to fill my chart, which was only a top 25 back them. I did have some singles in my chart that peaked at exactly #40, including two #1s.

also a bit surprised you charted Cascada and you charted the SFG's old one instead of their latest one.
