New number one this week - probably not the one you're expecting! I have added the peak for songs that reached #1 or #2. No. of weeks is weeks at peak not weeks on chart.
1 (5) THAT'S HOW PEOPLE GROW UP - Morrissey (#1 1wk) 2 (1) YOUNG FREE AND SIMPLE - Urbnri (#1 2wks) 3 (NEW) SOMETHING GOOD '08 - Utah Saints 4 (NEW) MISERY BUSINESS - Paramore 5 (3) WHO'S GOT A MATCH - Biffy Clyro 6 (2) DREAM CATCH ME - Newton Faulkner (#2 2wks) 7 (8) READY FOR THE FLOOR - Hot Chip 8 (NEW) WHEN I'M GONE - Simple Plan 9 (4) I THOUGHT IT WAS OVER - The Feeling 10 (7) NOW YOU'RE GONE - Basshunter (#1 1wk)

Just to add a bit of commentary: Morrissey gets his second IJ#1 with a song that grew on me fast over the past week. ' Satan Rejected My Soul' ( Link) was the 1st, in January 1998. I'm no fan of Morrissey's political views, but he can certainly turn out a great soft-rock tune with lyrics to match. Urbnri (Irn-Bru backwards, thanks Frag) are the first Scottish unsigned band to reach the top 40. (You may recall about a year ago Koopa ( Link) were the first unsigned band to make the top 40). I picked the song out as the best of three guitar tracks 3 weeks ago when I was still in New Zealand, and if it hadn't gone in at #1 then it would certainly have climbed there the following week. It's not urban music, ' Young Free & Simple' ( Link) is a dirty punk rock track with a catchy chorus. Utah Saints is a remix of a 1992 Top 5 hit. It's not as good as the original, but even so I am happy to see it in the charts again because it's a top dance tune. Paramore is a commercial female-fronted punk track and, unless it grows on me a lot, it doesn't have enough to challenge the current top 2.

Hmm... I'm not really that fond of Morrissey's new song - to me, there's not much to differentiate it from his previous songs. It would have been #31 in my chart last week, but falls to something like #45 this week with all the new entries. I don't think the Urbnri song is too special either another one that's failing to chart so far. Paramore's song, on the other hand, is catchy enough to make it into my top 30 (chart coming up in the next 10-20 minutes). The other new entries - I didn't like the Simple Plan song at all, and haven't heard the Utah Saints one.

It is a good number one, it would be my #1 this week if I were restricted to top 40 hits only.
