This is the first IJ chart in which top 75 songs are eligible. To smooth the transition from Top 40 to Top 75, only New entries into the top 75 are eligible (i.e. not re-entries, and not songs that entered below #40 in previous weeks).
This week's UK Top 40 was particularly boring (highest new entry was #23, only 5 in the whole chart, and all but 1 of them are awful!) so it seemed a good week to make the rules change.
So how does it all shake out?...
1 (2) YOUNG FREE & SIMPLE - Urbnri (#1 2+1wks) 2 (1) THAT'S HOW PEOPLE GROW UP - Morrissey (#1 1wk) 3 (NEW) NEW SOUL - Yael Naim 4 (3) SOMETHING GOOD '08 - Utah Saints 5 (NEW) FASCINATION - Alphabeat 6 (4) MISERY BUSINESS - Paramore 7 (6) DREAM CATCH ME - Newton Faulkner (#2 2wks) 8 (NEW) DIG, LAZARUS, DIG - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 9 (5) WHO'S GOT A MATCH - Biffy Clyro 10 (NEW) CASSIUS - Foals
In the end the change didn't affect the top four, there being nothing spectacular in the lower 35 of the UK chart. Said top 4 was very close, but even with the New song advantage Yael Naim couldn't quite surpass the top 2 from last week. I went off Morrissey over the week, while Urbnri is song of the year so far - a stunning piece of punk rock.

1 (2) YOUNG FREE & SIMPLE - Urbnri (#1 2+1wks) 2 (1) THAT'S HOW PEOPLE GROW UP - Morrissey (#1 1wk) Good. The Urbnri song is likely (not quite certain yet) to break into my top 30 this week. The new entries.. 3 (NEW) NEW SOUL - Yael Naim 5 (NEW) FASCINATION - Alphabeat Not heard - yet... 8 (NEW) DIG, LAZARUS, DIG - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Didn't like this one at all. Listened to it with the intention of putting it onto my playlist, but stopped it after about a minute or so. 10 (NEW) CASSIUS - Foals Hmm, didn't think you'd like this one much. I'm still undecided about Foals, other than that they're good in a club. I think they have a song which either repeats "Five! Four!" or "Po! Kémon!", but I've no idea what it's called. But one of the DJs at Narcissists likes it enough to play it every week. It's not actually released properly until 10th March, so won't get in my chart just yet.

Yael Naim is a light upbeat poppy female singer/songwriter type song. Alphabeat is dancey pop.

Yael Naim is a light upbeat poppy female singer/songwriter type song.. OH, that one from the advert! Yes, of course I know it. But the advertisement obviously wasn't that great as I can't remember what it was for! Some iPhone-type piece of kit iirc.
