bought it a couple of months ago but it grabbed me just recently thx to "tales of a librarian" (i really love her greatest hits!). lyrically one of her easiest albums to get into imo. i love "crucify" (especially when the backing vocals join in during the chorus, and i love the way she says "i got a bowling ball in my stumach, i got a desert in my mouth"), "silent all these years" and "me and my gun" (scares the hell out of me everytime i hear it!). why did she include "tear in yur hand" on the greatest hits? it don't consider it as a highlight tbh, i find it quite boring even she looks nice on the cover too is it your favourite/most hated (if that excists ) tori record? why? what are you favourite tracks onnit (oh you get the point ) how did it do in the UK/US charts btw?

Erm..I think you mean 'Little Earthquakes' and NOT 'Strange Little Girls' It used to be my #1 Tori album, now it's down to my #3. Something's dated but it still holds some freshness within (maybe because it's the album I started with). Critics' favourite and her easiest one to listen to for me. Favourites are. Well, the first 5 songs and the last 2 tracks are all brilliant. If to select one track, it would be 'Winter'. Not a single thing has dated since I heard i for the first time. What a revolutionary meaning it had for me, it changed my view on lyrics & piano forever. As for my least favourites. 'Tear In Your Hand' is average. 'Happy Phantom' and 'Leather' are quite good sometimes and 'China' usually never does it for me. Perhaps her most tiresome song to hear.

Seriously, I was going to answer this thread 'Let's Not'... (However, there was a point in time when I was obsessed by SLG) 'Little Earthquakes' ....my goodness. What is there to say? I listened to that album 2 years constantly when I was about 16.... and got me into the idea of 'real' music - ghastly, pretentious term I know but I'm a bit tired to come up with something better I remember in late 1991 when I heard SATY on the radio and I was interested but it wasn't really my genre - I was a complete pop tart with madonna my no.1! When her third single 'Winter' entered the charts I got VERY interested and bought the single one day. Played it about 25 times that night - just no song or sound had moved me like this woman. Such a perfect, heartwrenching, beautiful song. Soon I bought the album and it became a daily ritual. I just understood everything and where she was coming from and the music moved me so much...to say it was my favourite album of all time was the biggest understatement! Now, it's a case of overfamiliarity with the songs and I've moved on. I don't think I've played it in it's entirety for about 3 years! And it's almost too difficult to listen to tracks like SATY now - brings back so much stuff...still when I go and see her live it's always the Earthquakes tracks that I really want to hear and sends my pulse racing. Best tracks: SATY, Winter and the title track. and yet again I agree with Quandary : Happy Phantom and China I do not like at all. Tear in Your Hand is overrated... and for some reason I never got into Mother! Chart positions: #14 UK, #40 something in the US. But it is probably her biggest selling album in both countries - although some say UTP is...

But I was a bit shortsighted in the sense of I could have easily bought all her singles from Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink for £1.99... Her UK singles from that era (especially the limited edition ones) can sell for over £50 on ebay. The biggest disappointment was when I bought the standard edition only of 'Cornflake Girl', the ltd edition is one of the rarest Tori things out there and I did seriously thinking about buying it in the shop. It's not about the money - doubt I would have sold them but it would have been so prestigious to own so many rarities.

It was rumoured. Venus was originally going to be one disc live and one disc of her best loved B sides but then she said some stuff about new songs coming to find her. She did say she was going to release all her Bsides in a collection but it just hasn't happened. Maybe it's due to contractual difficulties with her last record company. As for B sides I recommend: Purple People, Sugar, Honey, Carnival, Siren (those two are from soundtracks) and Mountain (from the Scarlet's Walk era).

Especially the part of being 16, poptart, real music and obsession with 'Winter' part is identical ! Wow..

can't believe someone doesn't like tear in your hand!!! that song is so profound, it's a brilliant love song toal is my least fave tori album i think she's not the sort of artist whose songs can be taken out of (the album's) context it's like an american quilt and not in a good way

My absolute favourite Tori song is "Winter" and it has been ever since "Little Earthquakes" was released. Some have come close since (Cornflake Girl, Spark, Bliss) but never quite made it.
Also didn't think I'd ever find an album of hers I loved more but I now find the one I turn most often to is "From The Choirgirl Hotel" and was chuffed to see that "Jackie's Strength" made it on to "Tales Of A Librarian" (although she shouldn't have tampered with it!)
Worst album for me is "Strange Little Girls"... a good concept but I just don't like half the songs on there. Good job of "I Don't Like Mondays" though.

Hi I've also been a Tori fan since day 1!!!!! In fact now I can never listen to Little Eartquakes because I only got it in vinyl and my record player is been broken for ages...
LE is a classic album, one of her best, lirically more accessible than Pele or Choirgirl.
I agree with most of the comments. My fav track has always been Winter. I also love Precious Things, which no one is mentioning, in my opinion, it's got to be the best song ever not released as a single!!!!!!! I also like Girl, Silent, and I do think Tear in Your Hand is an amazing track. For the rest, I also like Crucify, Me and a gun and Little Earthquakes but the rest... for some reason I never got into Mother and Leather,... and for Happy Phantom and China, I'm still amazed they made it into LE because they are both not up to the standards of the album. I still can't believe China even was released as a single...
Wouldn't LE be an even amazing albul if Upside Down was there instead of China!!!!!!!!!! In fact, a lot of the LE b-sides are great and should have been on the album, like Here.in my head, this is one of Tori's best songs... Just image LE with Here.in my head and Upside Down replacing Happy Phantom & China....
