I'm in a complete Olivia Newton-John frenzy at the moment. I go through phases where I listen to one of my five favourite divas more than the others and August/September has been hopelessly devoted to Livvy! I've been trawling through youtube to quench my thirst for new Olivia and thought I'd share these. I hope ChrisSydney drops by because I need an ONJ expert for one of them. Anyway, this clip is pure heaven for old school homosexuals, or more bluntly for OLD homos ;D. It's a clip of Olivia jamming with ABBA and Andy Gibb. Frida sings an opera solo that literally gave me goose bumps. What a fabulous collection of talent: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_DkcDclP3UThis one is for lovers of trash, and fun for even the most casual fan. It's also interesting because it's probably one of the first video clips ever made. It's Olivia's "Gimme Some Lovin'", a clip I haven't seen before. It's not on her "Gold" DVD collection and I can't understand how I managed to miss it. It's probably the most fabulous clip I've ever seen in my life. This is the kind of thing that I can imagine La Toya doing ! Olivia dresses as various characters, from Lady Godiva and Barbarella, to Marlene Dietrich. The Barbarella dance routine is to die for ! Appreciate! www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjJIsMIrLK8Now this is the one I need Chris for! It's a clip for "Tutta La Vita", one of the highlights from "The Rumour". Only, I'm sure it wasn't released as a single (or did I miss that?) and I'm sure this is a fan made clip. I want to know where the fabulous footage is from! Olivia camping it up with sailors and leading a conga line on a navy vessel during the 1988 bicentennial celebration on Sydney harbour ! It's beyond GAY! I need to know what it was all about. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzWWVOdIAzM&mode=related&search=Finally, this is for Toy Poodle, a meeting of two of our favourite divas - Olivia on the Nana Mouskouri show ! www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi6CNyzfHbEOh, and why the f*** not, an oldie but a goodie and one of the most ridiculous film clips of the 80s, Olivia's stunning "The Rumour". That "wall-dancing" never goes out of fashion, unlike Livvy's fabulous perm! ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUFUqXtfS_Y

Ok i shall give it a go.It had better be worth it or you will be punished.I know it's gonna take an hour ,so I'll set the sling up in the driveway on the offchance that a passing stranger will give me a ride. Decisions decisions - what clip to go for ? Hmm methinks the one which you described using the word 'sailors'....I'm drawn to that one.I'm hoping for male nudity, and better not be disappointed.

Yes, "Tutta La Vita" is wonderfully embarrassing! Maybe you should go for that, even if you for some reason don't like it (ie. you have poor taste) you can still perve on the sailors, Olivia's ridiculous dancing and Sydney's beautiful harbour! ;D However, I also recommend "Gimme Some Lovin'" - I'm sure you would not be disappointed by the campest film clip in history. I mean, she's wearing a f***ing toga!

Yes, give GSL a go, I think you might find it even more hilarious for her trashy dancing and costume changes! Now you have no excuse not to check out all the fabulous links I've posted, like Dannii and Pat Wilson! ;D

But back to ONJ... I love "Have You Ever Been Mellow" and "Magic". Breezy classics from the 70s.

Lola,
The 'video' of 'Gimme Some Lovin'' is from her 1980 ABC TV special 'Hollywood Nights'. It was one of a number of over-the-top sequences including her opening version of 'Hollywood Nights' complete with sparkly pink lycra bodysuit (!) and a duet with Gene Kelly where they discuss what sort of movie they want to make after 'Xanadu'. Andy Gibb, Elton John, Karen Carpenter, Toni Tennille and Tina Turner, amongst others, make appearances throughout that special. It's gold!
The vid for 'Tutta La Vita' was the opening of her 'Olivia Down Under' TV special / home video from 1988. It was effectively a video album for 'The Rumour' (only missing out 'It's Not Heaven' and 'Car Games') filmed at different locations around Australia, linked by Olivia waxing lyrical about the country and its people. It also included the studio videos of 'The Rumour' and 'Love And Let Live'. The latter is a gorgeous, slightly surreal black and white piece about AIDS and definitely worth tracking down if you can find it.

Just downloaded ONJ's duet "Suddenly" with Sir Cliff Richard. It's rather nice. Though people on Limewire had it down as ONJ with Andy Gibb... the fools!

I thought they stopped after "Physical" and "Soul Kiss". How could they miss out "It's Not Heaven" - my favourite song from the album ! Do you have any idea if they released the ABC special on DVD or VHS? I'd kill to see it. I'll keep an eye out for them both, although I can't remember seeing them on Ebay. I'll have to throw myself at some old Olivia loving queens and hope for the best. Thanks for enlightening me! I really can't believe that "Tutta La Vita" is official - it's so wonderfully craptastic!

Oh! How I adore Nana! I'm so glad I saw her on her farewell tour this year. No voice can comfort me like Nana's. Thanks Mike, I love this sweet take on Sing. Who recorded it first? The Carpenters?

It was originally written for 'Sesame Street'. I think the Carpenters popularised it though. That performance was from 1974, one year after the Carpenters released their version on their 'Now And Then' LP.
Lola, none of Olivia's TV specials ever had an official release, other than a limited Laserdisc printing of her 1978 'Olivia' one (the special with Andy Gibb, ABBA, etc). You should be able to track down a copy of 'Olivia Down Under' on VHS or a bootleg DVD of it on eBay though.

I only have the Streisand version in my collection (medley with Make your own kind of music) and that's from '73 too.

I had no idea it originated on Sesame Street! The 70s/80s were so much more fun - can you really imagine two of the biggest stars of today jamming away on TV? I like Barbra's version too, Poodle! Chris, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Rumour DVD/VHS! Where did you see the ABC Special? I am in love with Olivia dressed up as Marlene and Barbarella! And don't get me started on the fabulous dance moves. If you have it, I'm dropping by to watch it! ;D
