Janet's "Crap On Me" is being released in the UK and Australia next Monday. I'm just wondering if the song is getting much airplay in the UK and if the video is on high rotation? I've yet to hear the song on Australian radio - however, I have seen the video a few times. I think if the like of Cassie and Kelis can debut in the Aus top 20 with little or no airplay, then Nelly & Janet should too. I don't think it will be a big hit unless they do some serious promotion. There are 2 formats in the UK, I wonder if the remixes will at least be worth listening to - unlike the standard version.

It'll show on this weeks downloads if COM can be a hit in the UK... but honestly, I doubt it.
She hasn't promoted it at all and it hasn't exactly gotten good reviews. Top 20, if she's lucky...

The UK are always kinder to Janet than the US market.

The UK are always kinder to Janet than the US market. No we aren't, she hasn't had a No. 1 over here. I heard it on the radio once, and that was during an interview she gave. Haven't seen it on TV at all. I listen to the radio when at work (which is a lot) so I'm suprised I haven't heard it.

If you look at her 2004 singles, you'll see chartwise she does better in the UK. And she gets more singles released. www.jacksonfamily-database.de/index2.htmAnd chart position wise the UK have always been good to Michael too.

But that's because the UK charts are sales based and not a mix of airplay and sales. Going in at #14 for someone of Janet's calibre is poor... and her last album barely sold Silver there!
I do agree, however, that the UK is usually more nice to Michael than the US...

DJ is probably the only time Janet has more singles success in the UK than US. Remember that Rhythm Nation actually holds a record here for the most top 5 hits from one album (and State Of The World would've likely made an eighth if A&M released it as a single in the US, considering it went top 5 on the airplay chart alone) whereas the biggest UK hit off there peaked at #15. In the US, Janet's always been thought of as a female superstar on the same level as Madonna, Mariah and Whitney, whereas other countries laugh at that thought the way some Americans (hell, on this board) laugh at how Kylie is the one in that place in some countries instead.

The UK doesn't take kindly to Janet's dumbed down urban sound. You're more likely to hear All For You or The Best Things In Life Are Free on the radio here than Call On Me. The video didn't chart either.
There was a time she made music that appealed to everyone, black or white, old or young, gay or straight, but she's very much limiting herself by aiming so much towards the US urban market who are probably more interested in artists half her age.
In fact she hasn't had a top 10 here since All For You and probably wont again until she releases something more fun and upbeat. Michael had a top 5 in 2003 with One More Chance and that song didn't even have a proper video. Plus it was released during his 'sharing your bed with children' scandal. She's always just seen as "Michael's little sister" here, but had a lot of success with The Velvet Rope.

Janet's music is too universal to be limited with the stuff she's doing now. She's always been as popular with white pop listeners as she's been with urban listeners, but JD is such a "pop-ophobe" that he'd rather alienate the pop audience, like he did with Mariah and Usher beforehand.

To get back to the thread - it's not in the UK Airplay top 100.

According to wikipedia its number 15 on the UK Airplay Radio Chart, but it say's Call on Me isn't even supposed to be released as a UK single until the 18th. So if it is indeed at number 15 and it isn't even released yet...then congrats?

LOL! Wishful thinking! Will someone who uses the other forums here let us know where it appears on downloads? That should be this week, right? The UK charts have become so confusing. I heard the song on Aus radio today. It's so insipid. What was JD thinking?

I heard All For You Live yesterday, and thats about it, they did mention the new single, but didn't give it much credit to put it nicely.

I don't think it even entered the Airplay Top 50 at all Video play is falling as well: I know KISS did have the video on high rotation, but it was taken off the main playlist a couple of weeks ago. No sign of it in the midweeks either. This is going to be a massive FLOP!

too bad for janet. however it wasnt really bright of her and her team to release COM as 20YO's first single So excited would have been better. speaking of SEx, i think that its not doing too well at the moment poor janet, my love for you is still strong!

Maybe she should put out a Greatest Hits with a nice poppy dance mix of 'The Pleasure Principle' as the lead single, similar to what she did for 'Design Of A Decade' -- it would certainly do wonders for her career in Europe!
