I think I've put my finger on it. It's the word Pavements. It sounds too out of place, it just doesn't fit quite right in the song for me. Pavements just sounds too clunky and functional.
Does that sound daft?

Ooop, time to eat my words about this song. I now love it, it kind of clicked with me in the last couple of days.

Having heard it several times on the radio today it's grown on me too.

It's definitely a grower, not a bad song but it's not phenomenal.

oh I see, very clever. Limited edition 7" only, so anyone with just a computer and ability to play CDs has no way of playing it. Or get a USB turntable so you can convert vinyl to mp3 files.

Won't start another thread but doesn't anyone else think 'Hometown Glory' sounds a bit like a Fiona Apple ballad? Much better than 'Chasing Pavements' - anyone got the album?

Only got it yesterday, the best voice (yes, better than Leona by miles imo) and song i have heard in a very long time. The world needs more of these and it will be a much nicer place!

Was thinking of buying the album since I like Pavements a lot... and also like Hometown Glory... but not that crazy about Cold Shoulder... so what do you all think of the album??

Adele is a funny one for me (not as in funny ha-ha, but...) for some reason, I instantly can't stand her songs. I have 19, and it's good for me now, but it took about three or four listens before it did click. I would say Cold Shoulder is my favourite one on the album. I'm not mad keen on the fact she repeats the line "Whenever you look at me I wish I was her" in the chorus, thats just a bit lazy.
Hometown Glory is probably one of the only ones I still don't like.
Unfortunately, she is stuck with the forever predictable comparisons with Duffy for the time being, who is shadowing her completely.
