Loved the Phil Fearon & Galaxy song together with the awesome What do i do and I can prove it. The late Laura Branigan's best song by far!Lets rather forget the terrible 2004 version. I love Shakatak.Down on the street is such a funky tune.I saw them live twice in Cape Town, they are very popular here and great live too. Classic Depeche Mode song, i loved them since i first heard Leave in silence. thanks Stu, i love these classic charts!Keep them coming.

Some fabulous songs in that chart (plus quite a few that I've forgotten or never heard of),and ** swoon** Mr George Michael at the top.The best song in the chart at number one and rightly so. 1 (1) George Michael - Careless Whisper 7 (16) Miami Sound Machine - Doctor Beat 8 (7) Hazell Dean - Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go) 12 (8) Tina Turner - Whats Love Got To Do With It 16 (13) Jeffrey Osbourne - On The Wings Of Love 18 (NE) Ray Parker Jnr - Ghostbusters 20 (12) Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax 21 (18) Tracey Ullman - Sunglasses 25 (29) Pointer Sisters - I Need You 34 (NE) Bucks Fizz - Talking In Your Sleep 38 (31) Divine - You Think You're A Man Hey that song is really corny and I like it. Tracey Ullman - I don't think she's that funny but I love all her songs. Yay Bucks Fizz at #34 with what should have went on to be a much bigger hit.I wonder were they peed off to see Tina Turner so high up the chart with a song that they recorded first . Yeah her version is much better and she really made it her own ,but even so ,it must have been a birrova slap in the chops for the Fizz every time they heard it on the radio !

Quite a few I don't know on here - the fact I was out of the country and more used to the American charts doesn't help either. Anyhoo a list of faves I do have... 2 (3) Stevie Wonder - I Just Called (yeah, yeah it's cheesy with the synths but it takes me back to a happy childhood)4 (4) Howard Jones - Like To Get To Know You Well (this guy was on fire in the early 80s)5 (6) Laura Branigan - Self Control (great classic)7 (16) Miami Sound Machine - Doctor Beat (saw them in concert in '88... my sister loved them too)12 (8) Tina Turner - Whats Love Got To Do With It (nice enough)16 (13) Jeffrey Osbourne - On The Wings Of Love (I'm with pcb... corny goodness!)19 (14) Prince - When Doves Cry (funky bassline - big Prince fan in 84)34 (NE) Bucks Fizz - Talking In Your Sleep (prefer The Romantics version which had a crazy driving guitar hook... www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HLZkjeHCM4)

What did Bucks Fizz record Whats love got to do with it??? Bucks Fizz went Top 20, i think no.15 with Talking in your sleep.I also like he Romantics version better maybe cause it was a hit before Bucks Fizz.Same with Heart of stone by Cher (and im sure gers was a cover as well). But Bucks Fizz had some great tunes!Golden Days, If you cant stand the heat and Land of make believe are standouts for me!

'Talking In Your Sleep' deserved to go even higher than #15 ! Until last year,I'd always thought that song was a Bucks Fizz original I don't think I'd ever heard of The Romantics 'til Meister put it on his Myspace music player ! In 2000,the second Fizz album was reissued on cd with bonus tracks including 'WLGTDWI'.Their version had been gathering dust in the vaults (or whatever) for all those years. The cd booklet says something about how they recorded it in March 1984,and that Tina did it in June of the same year. The song is co written by Terry Britten. The Fizz used one of his other co written tracks as a single - the Jannie loved 'Golden Days' (was also recorded by Cliff Richard but I forget if he sang it before them or after them.Maybe Barry Mannilow too ? I forget). OH I love Heart Of Stone and Cher does it brilliantly but it was the first Fizz single I ever bought and I MUCH prefer their version. 'Give A Little Love' is another outstanding classic (Cheryl lead),and went on to be a hit single for Aswad, after the Fizz had wasted it as a B side . 'Love In A World Gone Mad' (another Cheryl lead)was later covered by Agnetha off ABBA. I remember all the hoo haa over Frankie Goes To Hollywoods 'Relax'.I didn't see the video back then, but had heard the song, and I couldn't understand what the fuss was about.I used to sing the chorus, and be told it was rude but I didn't get it.lol.I'd be like ''What's so rude about it ?'' Innocence ,eh . Edit - lol just re read the chart and it's 'Two Tribes' not Relax.I see Frankie Goes To Hollywood and my brain goes straight to 'Relax'.lol.Uhm can't remember their other stuff really,so that's that. ;D

I read somewhere someone said something about Golden Days being recorded by Cliff??I couldnt find anything anywhere confirming that though.I ts just as difficult trying to hunt down Kelly Delius's version of the Hazell Dean hit (well in Sweden and South Africa) They say it's gonna rain and Anne Murray's version of Who's leaving who. I had the same thing with Relax, i obviously didn't know what the whole thing was about!

Careless Whisper was my #1, and Hazell Dean was surprisingly my #2 - as I've mentioned before I actually quite liked early Stock/Aitken/Waterman.
Jeffrey Osborne was #3 in my chart (although possibly not on this week as the Laura Branigan one also reached #3). That is a classic ballad and I'm surprised it performed so poorly in the UK. I think in the USA it matched my chart peak of #3.

Trevor Walters, in the top 10 here, was a musician from the UK reggae scene called "Lovers Rock". "Stuck On You" is the Lionel Richie song.

I was wondering about that one, as i couldn't recall the song at all.It was not unheard of for singers to bring out a reggae type version and a ballad/rock cover a year or two later.Lately by Stevie Wonder and another guy had a reggae version out at the same time, i think his surname was also Grant but not Eddie.
