i don't know what i think of this, to be honest... i expect some of it will grow on me, but i'm disliking the country/western twang that some of the more mellow tracks have. the louder ones, far from being more like the earlier stuff (which was what i was expecting) seem a bit on the tuneless side... i do hope it grows... i'm quite disappointed at the moment

I really like it on the first listen. Songs like "El Captain", "Disconnected" and "Welcome Home" surprise me. I expected also something more like "the remote part", but I really love it as it has been made.
I hope to see "El Captain" released as the second single ;D

ok, i think i was a bit harsh... some of it is starting to grow on me but i still think it's nothing like what i've known and loved from them before, which is what disappoints me... also, that country/western twang is annoying my pick for 2nd single is the lovely "welcome home". other favourites are "not just sometimes but always", "blame it on obvious ways" and "as if i hadn't slept", which is starting to grow. i'm really not impressed with "i want a warning", though...

Have a couple Idlewild albums and they just seem too immature for me (lack of better words). Am I missing something or am I right?

yeh you are Indie, they have matured greatly on the last album and the new one. In fact Greendemon I prefer most of the more mellow acoustic REM style tracks on this album and they even do the old guitars as bagpipes thing that Big country used to do.
They are a million miles now from 'A Film for the future' or 'Everybodys thinks I'm so fragile'

very true... i was hardly expecting "100 broken windows" part 2, but i adore "the remote part" and i'm just not sure i've adjusted to this yet... i do love their mellow stuff, even on this album... just not with those bloody country/western twangs
