New Order have split up, according to bassist Peter Hook.
As previously reported the band denied they were splitting earlier this year despite drummer Stephen Morris being quoted as saying: "We should stop for a while."
Speaking about his involvement in Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, Peter Hook told Xfm that the band have broken up.
He said: "I spoke to Perry, and he asked me to play bass, as he'd heard about New Order splitting up. Well yeah, me and Bernard (Sumner) aren't working together."
When asked if the split was permanent, he added: "Bernard went off for a break with Electronic, but that was different. But it's like the boy who cried wolf this time."

I probably OUGHT to be gutted as I love them but I can't see them ever making a great album again so perhaps it's for the best.

So the crappy and overrated Police reform, and these talented guys depart.
What's up with music at the moment?.

Don't worry - they'll be back. There'll be a new album sometime in the next five years!

Doesn't sound acrimonius at all so I wouldn't be surprised if they started working together again. During the 8 year break between Republic and Get Ready the members were all actively releasing music in their various side projects. They all seem to like doing their own things, it'll just be a matter of time before they all get on the same page again.

I'm gutted that New Order have splitted up but it might be for good... Maybe the solo projects will be successful!

New Order's Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris have said they will continue without bass player Peter Hook. Hook recently announced on a radio station that the legendary Manchester band had split up, but Sumner and Morris said they were surprised.
"We would have hoped he could have approached us personally first," the duo said in a statement.
"New Order have not split up," they added. The band are known for hits including Blue Monday and Regret.
"Whatever happens musically or otherwise, New Order have not split up, they continue to exist," the statement continued.
Hook told Xfm in May that the band had broken up.
He said he and frontman Sumner had gone their separate ways and were no longer working together.
Hook was a founding member of Joy Division, who became New Order following the suicide of vocalist Ian Curtis.
The band's most recent studio album, Waiting For The Sirens' Call, was released in April 2005.
Hook added on his MySpace page: "I'm relieved, really, hated carrying on as normal with an awful secret so let's move on, shall we?"
But a New Order spokeswoman said it was "probably just Hooky messing about. Everyone knows what he's like".

Well, I'm a bit pleased as I like New Order, even if they are getting duller by the album. But if they had split and stayed split I probably wouldn't have noticed really.
Aren't they using a New Order track on a washing machine advert at the moment?
