2007 for me meant the death of indie... all the brand new songs from brand new bands sound exactly the same The View The Enemy etc... Almost all bands except the Arctics suffered from the sophomore slump Editors and The Kaiser Chiefs releasing dreadful follow ups Editors turning into a BAD version of Snow Patrol and Kaiser Chiefs uninspiring... I'm not that much into Bloc Party's album either... You dont get any new bands like The Howling Bells, Dead Disco or The Go Team... You don't get albums as good as Silent Shout, Howling Bells, Let's Get Out Of This Country, Dying To Say This To You or Show Your Bones... You dont get songs as good as Like A Pen, What Else Is There, Hoppipolla, Starlight, Setting Sun, The Zookeeper's Boy, Gold Lion, Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above, Set The Fire To The Third Bar, 9 Crimes etc... The only decent band I discovered in 2007 was Au Revoir Simone... I dont even do a personal chart anymore... And I feel like I'm dying with indie music

I also think that most indie bands have suffered from the commercialisms of indie... Also the brand new albums like The Klaxons Myths Of The Near Future wasn't that great after all the hype surrounding them... They could do without working on something special because of all this over-hyping... So I just think that many indie bands nowadays are just sitting on their laurrels because anything they'll release will get overhyped then it does well even though the quality is poor!

if you are getting bored of what is being fed to you, start finding new stuff! that's what indie is all about in the first place!!

I do agree that albums by the Kaisers and Killers are very weak, but I consider them commercial indie anyway, they are there to sell albums, disappointing, but I still find loads of bands out there, and I'm discovering new singles each week through mtv2 and radio stations, radio 1 zane lowe and thorney's radio station. I also find myspace a good place to search if you hear one song by a band. I'm also looking forward to the Air Traffic album, and I really must get hold of the Howling Bells album soon, I have LOVED the singles Low Happening and Setting sun, criminal that they dont get top 40 success And have you still get a personal chart yeah yeah tron.

the indie music spoon fed by the media is dying because none of the bands are good enough to make a decent second album. but look outside the top 40 and theres loadsa great music.

agree with toy yeahyeahtron about the bands you mention in your first post.omly the arctics & klaxons from the well known brit bands still represent the great indie.but i have to admit that indie is not always about big bands...still a lot of new acts give us hope...
but i dont believe that indie music is duying. just changing...
from the other hand we should look further than uk...in US & Canada you can find many important indie/alternative acts with great releases.

but on further thought i do kinda agree... I've never been a fan of the 'popular' indie that many here like (klaxons and Arctic Monkeys are complete toss to me) but i've been more into electro stuff lately mostly due to lack of good indie to be found. I'll always like indie more but there is a bit of a lull to me too...

Hopefully Interpol will save all our souls. Patrick Wolf's album is amazing. Arcade Fire's album is good (if not spectacular), as are the offerings from Bloc Party, Cold War Kids, The Good The Bad & The Queen, Modest Mouse, Willy Mason, Bright Eyes and Rufus Wainwright (if he counts vaguely counts). I also really like the Low album but it appears to be less liked by others, I'd say you may like it though YYT.

Missing from Dandy's list are The Hold Steady (although possibly more rock) and what is the best album I've bought in ages; THE SHINS!

heard all that have been mentioned... none are that good. sorry, but it's true. seen modest mouse twice this year and Arcade Fire 3 times so far this year - so I am talking as a fan... on further thought. the only indie song that i care much about the last couple months is battles, 'atlas'. and the is i missed them at ATP

That side of it isn't really an issue for me though as I never get to see any bands live.

heard all that have been mentioned... none are that good. sorry, but it's true. It's really not true... I wouldn't say that Patrick's album was great if it wasn't... It's easily my most listened to album of the year, I'll never tire of it (although Robyn's album is catching it up). For UK purposes, I'd say The Sounds' album is great too but it was released elsewhere last year.

I wouldn't say that Patrick's album was great if it wasn't... it's not bad you are right... but he does have the disctinction of being the worst gig I've been to this year... haha (he opened for Arcade Fire). The Sounds... not heard that yet actually... is it just another NME indie band?
