Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
The 3rd single to be released from album of the same name. Quite a slow number over a chiming beat which is a bit depressing lyric wise. Not as infectious as Rehab and definately not a favourite of mines.
RATING: OUT OF 5
Beverley Knight – No Man’s Land
Another slow beat song. After a couple of listens to, I still dont get it. I feel Beveley has passed up the opportunity on numerous occasions to produce a song that suits her voice and this isnt a classic. With only 2 top ten hits, I feel she would struggle to break top 20 with this one. Back to the Drawing board babe.
RATING:
Brand New – Jesus Christ
The Long Island rock scene stalwarts release this weird ode to the Big man in the sky from the album "Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me". The song discusses what Jesus is like and also engages some dialogue with him. Singer Jesse even asks questions about him.
Very weird and dark, definately not my cup of tea.
RATING:
Dada feat Sandy Rivera & Trix- Lollipop
I got the promo of this over a month ago and I love it. Naughty and cheesy all in one package. Lyrics like "I'll like your ice cream and you can lick my lollipop" over an infectious beat is sure to be a summer anthem. Probably more suitable for the under 25's, but even though Im an old fart, I love it. My single of the week.
Groove Armada – Get Down
This is Groove Armadas first release since the re-issue of "I see you Baby" in Oct 2004 and comes from the brand new album "Soundboy Rock" which is relesed on the 7th of May.
Using the vocals of London Mc Stush, this track bounces along at some pace with a lively vocal attack from Stush. A very lively bouncing beat to sharp vocals sounds great to begin with but as the track goes on, it gets a bit annoying.
Not their best in my opinion, but will no doubt go down with people who like the rap and bouncing beat.
RATING:
Manic Street Preachers – Your Love Alone Is Not Enough
The first song from new album "Send away the tigers", sees the Manics enlist the help of Nina Persson from the cardigans.
Great rock guitar music from the manics with equally great duet lyrics from Nina and James Dean. With their last two singles reaching number 2, the Manics will be hoping for the same success.
My second single of the week.
RATING:
Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy 2007
No no no no no, all because of the advert, they have decided to re-release this one. Should have stayed back in 1991 when it was first released.
