So, Mr Blatter is set to propose that you have to have four home grown players starting every game.
Do you think it's a good idea? Is it workable? Who will it favour the most/least?
Personally,I think I agree, I think foreign players is always good, but you can have too much of a good thing and it has got out of hand. Don't forget it's not just here either, Italian and Spanish leagues are littered with foreign players too. If it's to be implemented across Europe or the across the world it definitely would be workable. It's not as if it's a large amount anyway, 4/11 is pretty easy to do, really. Biggest losers would be Chelsea obviously with their academy of almost entirely foreign players. Is it illegal? Well there'd still be nothing stopping a team having 100 foreign nationals amongst its playing staff...

But what if they pick up a young foreign player who stays at the club a long time, do they become eligible? I dont think it is manageable, and I do think the number of foreigners in our game has got out of hand a little bit. We have some great foreign players here as we have the best league in Europe at the moment, but I do also believe we have some foreign dross that people would rather sign, than take a gamble on emerging British talent. I just realised, he means league games, not european competitions?

Arsenal would be screwed.
I'm all in favour.

Arsenal will certainly not be screwed. For about two years, maybe, but Wenger has said his next bunch of youngsters are almost all English. Infact, of all Premiership academies only Middlesbrough have a higher percentage of English players than Arsenal do!

I can't see this quota thing getting anywhere really. The old rules were scrapped because they went against EU laws so I don't see how they think they'll be able to do it now.

its upto the clubs to follow the lead of boro and west ham and push the young lads through themself.
look at the champions league final, lampard, cole, ferdinand and carrick all came through the west ham accademy and were given a chance in the first team. imagine if west ham brought in a load of foreign players and these players were left in the reserves as young lads, then instead of moving to better teams they would have to move to a lesser team to get a game. then there is defoe and glenn johnson also doing well from the accademy, it looks like sears, tomkins and collison wil do well from the current group.
then theres boro who constantly produce a high number of local players and give them a chance, its a bit early to say how well these young lads will do but downing and wheater have already been in england squads and johnson and cattermole are regular in the u21's
i respect boro for bringing the young lads through, so it is possible without a quota

it goes against all the principles of the european union - you can't restrict the rights of european citizens to work
it's time fifa learn how the world works - blatter should be replaced with a true european
