I *may* have been a little bit bored this evening to compile this, but your comments are always welcome. #50 - Ride - Going Blank AgainWe'll kick off with a shoegazer band from the early 90's. I saw them live at Exeter Uni numerous times. Their concerts were a bit hit and miss, but they delivered some decent albums in their early years. After Birdman, well, I lost interest rapidly, but Twisteralla and Leave Them All Behind, Making Jody Smile, from this album were great songs.

#49 - KT Tunstall - Drastic FantasticPoor Ms Tunstall suffered from second album syndrome with this one, which is a shame, as it is a lovely fluid album from start to finish. Where Eye To The Telescope had the hooks and the catchy choruses, DF was a better solid KT sound. Funny Man, Hold On, and Little Favours are the stand out tracks for me.

#48 - Cardigans - Super Extra Gravity
Just when I had pretty much written off The Cardigans, they come up with this gem. Gran Turismo gave them the MTV marketable image, but I always found the album rather hard work - though Hanging Round was a highlight. Whilst the Life/Emmerdale/First Band On The Moon era was all lovely fluffy pop, I think this demonstrated their more miserable side, in their jolly/suicidal way. Don't Blame Your Daughter should so have been a single proper. I Need Some Fine Wine is brilliant. Oh, and no more A Camp albums please.

#47 - Voice Of The Beehive - Let It BeeI really must get around to replacing this onto CD at some point, as I'm still listening to it on vinyl. It doesn't contain my favourite VOTB track (which is ashamedly a cover of I Think I Love You), but Don't Call Me Baby and I Walk The Earth are the best tracks on here for me. By the time Honey Lingers came around, they just got a bit too twee for my liking, and Perfect Place was just horrible. I'm sure i read in a Smash Hits interview they made their own clothes out of coloured bin bags....

#46 - En Vogue - Funky DivasHoly moly, where did My Lovin' come from? It was just THERE in 92. I adore the "and now its time for breakdown" bit of the song. Free Your Mind, Whatta Man, Giving Him Something He Can Feel, is getting US RNB right. With maybe the exception of "The Boy Is Mine".

A proper gig at Brixton Academy and they were part of a Creation Records acoustic night at the Albert Hall. Then there was the "Ride tribute band" The Jennifers who eventually the core of Supergrass.

I think Super Extra Gravity is the Cardigan's best too.
I have never heard of Ride, and never really understood what shoegaze is! Shy people with guitars?!

I haven't seen it for years. I will check my parents attic when I next go there. I think Super Extra Gravity is the Cardigan's best too. I agree. Super Extra Gravity, Life, Long Gone Before Daylight would be my 1,2,3 of theirs. I do love Slow. It did make me chuckle the first time I heard it as it's so miserable!

Some more.... #45 - Sugar - Copper BlueEvery track just instantly catchy. Hoover Dam, If I Change Your Mind, and Changes are the highlights for me here. I still can't believe this album is 16 years old now, as the songs still sound fresh to me. The follow up File Under Easy Listening was rather disappointing after this. And also one of the only albums my brother and I agree on.

#44 - Wannadies - Bagsy MeSome more Scando-Indie-Pop. The Wannadies always sounded "fun" to me, and in their time released some great albums, Bagsy Me being the favourite from their back catalogue. Although not on this particular album, I always thought You And Me Song should have been a bigger hit than it was. Hit, Friends, Because, Shorty are my pick of the tracks on here.

#43 - Mike Oldfield - Music Of The SpheresI know this a relatively new release, and probably might fall from my list in a year to 18 months time, but I am loving this album at the moment, and probably the album I have listened to most this year. The album flows really well, and seems to be over too quickly. The Hayley Westenra featured songs are just lovely, and the last track Musica Universalis makes me want to listen to the album all over again. My only criticism of this is the albums title. To me, and I don't know whether its me being a bit thick, but I don't hear the "planets" theme, to me it sounds more Robin Hood-esque, but hey...

#42 - Sugababes - Angels With Dirty FacesI adore the Sugababes, however their albums always seem a patchy affair with a little too much filler, and you can see the singles from a mile off. Angels With Dirty Faces, however, is where they got it right. I was a bit disappointed after they disappeared for a while after Siobhan left during their tour, but this was definitely an impressive comeback. Stand tracks for me: Round Round (by a mile), Just Don't Need This (should have been a single), Shape, and Breathe Easy.

One of the album's tracks is entitled "Musica Universalis", which when translated into English is music of the spheres, an ancient philosophical concept that regards proportions in the movements of celestial bodies as a form of music; the concept of which the album is based upon.

#41 - Shamen - En-TactBefore Mr C ruined them.... I don't normally go for completely dance albums by one artist, but this one jumped out at me at the time. Make It Mine is a great Indie/Dance crossover track, Hyperreal and Omega Amigo also worthy singles. Then came Boss Drum, and the unforgiveable Ebeneezer Goode. I did like their singles LSI and Destination Eschaton (sp ?). They kind of lost their "sound" that I enjoyed so much on En-Tact after this.
