Wednesday May 7, 2008 MADONNA’S HARD CANDY DEBUTS AT #1 AROUND THE WORLD Album has biggest one week Canadian sales in 2008
For immediate release
It seems that the entire world has quite an appetite for Madonna’s new album, Hard Candy, with the record debuting at number one in no fewer than 27 countries. In addition to debuting at the top of the chart in Canada and the United States in North America, the album has also entered at number one in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, Holland, South Africa, Sweden, Finland and Slovakia, to name just a few.
In Canada, Neilsen SoundScan, the firm that measures actual sales of music in North America, Hard Candy has debuted at #1 with over 57,000 physical and digital albums sold, already making Hard Candy the fourth best selling album in this country in 2008.
Today’s announcement is just the latest in a series of record breaking performances that this record has been making. In April, “4 Minutes,” the first single from Hard Candy, had also debuted at #1 on the Digital Tracks Sales Chart with the highest one week total sales since the establishment of the chart in 2005. This followed the news a week previous that “4 Minutes” had become the first single to debut at #1 on the CHR chart in the history of BDS in Canada.
Hard Candy features Justin Timberlake on multiple tracks and production by Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Nate “Danja” Hills. “4 Minutes” was co-written by Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. Hard Candy peak position all over the world: Australia 1 Argentina 1 Brazil 1 Japan 1 Canada 1 United States 1 Europe 1 United World Chart 1 United Kingdom 1 France 1 Belgium (Flanders) 1 Belgium (Wallonia) 1 Germany 1 Austria 1 Ireland 1 Italy 1 Swizterland 1 The Netherlands 1 Sweden 1 Danemark 1 Finland 1 Spain 1 Portugal 1 Croatia 1 Czech Republic 1 Estonia 1 Slovenia 1 Israel 1 Chile 1 Honh Kong 1 Singapore 1 Taiwan [International Chart] 1 South Korea 1 South Africa 1 U.a.e 1 Norway 2 Hungary 2 New Zealand 5 Poland 5 Taiwan 5 in italian newspapaper la repubblica and corriere della sera they told that Hard Candy has sell 2.500.000 in the first week and in italy is double platinum (160.000). www.lanet.lv/misc/charts/ ;D ;D ;D

What a surprise. Really, it was clear from the beginning. And since I know your excitement about her I won't criticise the album. But I still wonder whether it's deserved.

Well DUH! She's Madonna so of course it'll sell truckloads in it's first week. Doesn't make it good or bad, just makes her a popular artist... which we already know.

She's actually debuted at #1 in over 30 countries, which is a new record for a solo artist.

She could release a CD filled with animal noises, it would still get to number one if it has her name on it.

LMAO at all the haters in this thread.
You'd think after 26 years Madonna having haters would be a thing of the past. Oh well I guess, it does nothing but PROVE her impact, relevance, and success.

I'm not a hater, I love Madonna. But you can't deny that people will buy her albums just because of who she is. People expect quality from her, and the fact that she has been around for so long means she has picked up many fans along the way.

I'm not a hater. I'm certainly not stupid enough to deny her impact, relevance or success either! All I'm saying is that Madonna's one of the most successful female artists of all time so of course whatever she releases will be greeted with big sales. All I'm saying is getting to #1 in a load of different countries doesn't denote a quality album, just a successful one.

Talk about plummeting all over the world, just look at Mariah's album.

The Madonna vs. Mariah thing is SO OLD now... To be honest, they are nothing alike so it's hard to compare them. Other than being successful females, I'm not sure what they've got in common? They look different, have completely different singing styles and even their music sounds nothing a like.
