Agree with all of the above. I think Simon will be p*ssed off as he may lose management control over Rhydian. I hope that he can get an album out, and that ALW will sign him up for the sequel of Phantom Despite what Simon says, Leon will have a rush-released album out just in time for Mother's day full of Michael Buble songs

Awww.. the look on poor Rhydian's face when he lost was tragic.. God bless him. I can't wait till he's got his album out. I just don't think that Leon has the X Factor - even Ray Quinn was better than him. Still maybe Leon will surprise us with his album.

Leona was probably the only winner that did have the X Factor. I'd say G4, Rhydian and Ben also had the X Factor Leon definitely has a better voice than Ray, but still cannot perform for sh*t. Because of that, I expect Leon's album might be quite promising, especially if they get him down the Buble route

Leon looks like a gap-toothed gypsy in the video for "When You Believe", not exactly a pin-up!

My opinion:
I said all along that the purpose of the show is to get viewers and lots of people voting and make money for Simon Cowell. Finding talent that will last is only of secondary importance.
The fact that when they display the names of the contestants to vote for they show a picture of their mentor rather than the contestant shows what it's all about, and it is certainly not to look after their careers.
The fact that there are clauses that the losing contestants cannot release anything for a period after during which most of the interest in them has gone proves the point further. Actually I think it would be fun if each contestant released a single on the week they were eliminated. The final contestants could release their songs together, although that might give them a disadvantage, so I suppose they could have the final a week earlier so the runner-up releases theirs then the winner theirs the following week...
The fact that they force the contestants to sing a "winner's song" that is not suited to them is a further issue.
Leon is not "terrible" as many suggest but then "When You Believe" is not his genre so why force him to record it? Yes, he sounds bad singing that, but then the Arctic Monkeys might sound bad trying to sing opera or jazz/swing. Each to their own.

So is this thread just a rehash of what everyone said before in the other thread? how very worthwhile

So is this thread just a rehash of what everyone said before in the other thread? how very worthwhile No - pertinent points are being raised. X Factor is massive with Haven - it's like banning all charts related stuff because of one argument.

This thread is pointless and will descend into one big arguement again. People have such extreme views and comments such as "Leon is crap" are just asking for trouble.

But then again - everyone says Westlife is crap (etc ) all over Haven. You can say that but without going overboard with passions - and no personal insults of other posters. Why because 2 people had an argument are no one else allowed to discuss it? And it's only an internet argument - it's not like anyone's died or something.

You`ll be pleased to know Rhydian signed a £1 million deal with Sony/BMG on Wednesday......it`s a more flexible contract than the winner in that it allows him to take up a contract with Andrew Lloyd Webber to play the lead in Phantom of Broadway in 2008/9 His album will have original material plus a duet with a mega-star and will be released around October time

Fab - I've got to see him in the Phantom. I imagine tickets will be like Gold Dust. Shame his album is delayed - hope enough interest is kept in him. Leona is massive but she did have 'A Moment Like This'..

They always go on about "that was a karaoke performance" like that's a bad thing, but in reality X-Factor is no more than a glorified karaoke competition on TV.
If you really want a search for "talent", there are loads of artists out there already writing and recording their own music that you have possibly never heard of, some of them are signed to minor labels and some are possibly not signed at all yet, but are still writing music and maybe record it privately.
I guess making a TV show on this though would not be popular because at the end of the day people like the entertainment of watching people perform songs they know, which is why it always helps the contestants when they do a familiar song. Chico was the only X-factor contestant ever who dared to do his own song. Ok, admittedly it wasn't a great song but at least it was his own, and I think I may have even voted for him that week for daring to do it.
Of course there already are many of them out there who breakthrough, eg Mika and Kate Nash did in 2007, neither of them went on X-Factor, Kate Nash wouldn't have got through the auditions and I'm not sure how much they'd have warmed to Mika either.
At the end of the day there is a market for artists who record other people's music in a certain niche but not in the mainstream which is why X-Factor contestants often appear not to be that successful afterwards, although in reality they may be doing reasonably well in their niche, eg Ray Quinn did sell a decent number of albums, albeit that it wasn't the biggest seller of the year (why should it be?) and Leon will probably follow a similar path.
Rhydian will use this promotion to get into theatre and probably release albums Josh Groban / Russell Watson style and will do well enough doing so for a few years.

Leona is massive but she did have 'A Moment Like This'.. To be honest I think the October release date will be moved forward - the record company do like to release at least one post-X Factor album fairly quickly and as we know Leon`s will take up to a year (according to Simon), so I still think Rhydian`s will be out late Spring (hope so anyway).

Did I hear somewhere that SD have been signed by Disney to be the face of HSM in the UK?

Excellent news - I think they would be brilliant at that! I think SD will do very well post-X Factor - they have a natural charm and natural connection with youngsters - I can see them landing their own show on maybe CBBC or one of the digital channels.

Someone should have an album out for Father's/Mothers/Valentine's Day, it's traditional! And helps show false sales for a below average album.
Glad to see Earl P echoing my thoughts on the whole concept, it's all about money and how much money the people behind it can make for the minimum of investment, and while people keep on watching it, they'll keep serving it up, just like Big Brother. Just Jack and Starz in their eyez got it spot on!
