I found this on a Michael Jackson forum and thought you guys would want to see it.
(latoya enters and sits)
Frank: Latoya it's great to have you on
L: Why thank you, its good to be here
F: Now I didn't realise until i came to research for this interview that there's actually 9 little jackson. 9 jackson children.
L: how many did you think we were?
F: well i knew there was 5 at least (laughter)
L: yeh, yeh
F: and then i knew there was you and i knew janet and i thought of course randy came into 5 after, and then you got a sister that to be honest with you i didnt know existed.
L: never heard of her? Rebbie?
F: Rebbie
L: thats true
F: what does rebbie do for a living? she's not a performer
L: No rebbie has performed, actually she umm.. u probably heard.. she had a song that was a very big hit called centipede years and years ago
F: Of course! (laughter) centipede! that was, that got many lots of feet taping that did. (laughter) So when the jackson 5 were like one of the hottest bands in the world, fantastic, you were a teenager then, didnt you say to your dad "why cant i be in the jackson 5?"
L: No, it wasnt me, i said "this isnt what i wish to do, i wanna go to school and study business law," and probably entertain being a lawyer of that nature and that all changed of course because my father at the age of 16, thats it you're gonna tap dance and you're gonna sing.
F: its a pity it would've been quite handy to have a lawyer in the family
L: i no, i no (laughter) it really would've been
F: I understand you were kind of a crazy family, doing practical jokes and all that kinda thing
L: i dunno if you guys have ever done it where you put a bucket of water on top of the door and you get someone to come in and the water spills all over their face and their head, everywhere
F: isnt that quite dangerous?
L: NO! cos its plastic (laughs)
F: oh its a plastic bucket
L: yes its a plastic bucket on top of the door
F: and i suppose if you've got a 4 foot afro..... (laughter) do you remember when michael developed the moonwalk? is that a kinda thing... u no the moonwalk?
L: yes i remember that quite well
F: did he used to practise at home?
L: he used to do it everyday actually on sundays he would spend an hour just dancing
F: you mean sunday was moonwalk day? (laughter)
L: no sunday was the day to work out meaning the day that he would take an hour and dance one hour straight non stop, every sunday.
F: yeh?
L: yeh
F: on his own or with...?
L: no on his own, on his own he would do it.
F: so ..umm... how long was the moonwalk a secret?
L: to be quite frank with you i dunno if you guys get this show but we have a show in america called "Soul Train", and they have certan dancers that kinda stand out on the show and there was this dancer by the name of Geoffrey, who was always doing the moonwalk on that show.
F: oh! so michael didnt invent the moonwalk?
L: no he taught him how to do it, he liked it and saw it and said he liked that, "can you show me how to do that?" and he did it.
F: thats fame isnt it?
L: yes yes
F: to be able to see someone moonwalking and say "i want that" (laughter)
L: he actually gave it to him, it was the backslide then but he changed it to the moonwalk.
F: o i see. i think a lot of people see the family through the eyes of michael, he became the dominant jackson
L: absolutely
F: so how was that at home? didnt that get on your nerves that he became a big star? (laughter) there must've been a part of you just thought "aahh michael michael michael!!!" am i right? (laughter)
L: (laughs) thats so funny, but no (laughs still)
F: yes, you laughed that much that is the laughter of recognition latoya jackson!
L: no absolutely not! it was interesting to how it happened, he just decided that he wanted to do a solo album and he did it and it just took off, it just went through the roof and hes been a success ever since.
F: but there must've been a moment... the jackson 5, the other 4 when he said im off to the studio, they went "o come on then lets go" and he went "actually im doing this on my own.... AOW!!!!!!!!" (meant ot be an impression of michael, that was kinda funny)
L: thats actually what he said (laughs) yeh thats absolutely right he said he went to the studio and he said no this one im doing on my own and the brothers kept waiting "well when are you coming back?" and he never did!" (laughs) he kept going
F: i bet he kept saying give it a couple of weeks time ill be there
L: i know he did!
F: (pretending to be on the phone) now what was that million dollar deal? (laughter)
L: no, true, hes right
F: its gotta have caused some... now some.... is it true that he's got the elephant mans skeleton at his house?
L: you'll have to ask him those quesitons
F: oh come on you've been round his house thats not a big.. of all the questions i couldve asked you of is it true? (laughter) thats not a biggie!
L: yeh you're right, but he does have some special things
F: (hushed) does he have the elephant man? (laughter)
L: he has...er.... he...
F: I swear it'll go no further (laughter)
L: *whispers* yes he does
F: he does! isnt that a bit scary?
L: no no
F: you've seen the movie have you?
L: o of course, we used to watch it all the time. we used to go up to the mountains to one of the homes we have in the mountains and the snow... and live there, we'd just sit there and watch it repeatedly.. Its the storyline we felt so bad so sorry for this guy because of his condition you see someone going through life that way, we had such a pity for him and it was so sad and our hearts just went out to him and those are the kind of people that we are so michael took it a step further and said im going to get (laughs at Frank)
F: Im gonna get the skelton and then we'll somehow make it up to him (laughter) yeh we'll give the skeleton a nice home
L: yeh, because its so unfair to treat someone so different just because of the way they look and its not fair
F: he is seen as this strange figure now. i think the one of the things that comes to mind, because he became such a recloose (sp?) people think, whats going on?
L: yes you're right
F: and there was a time when it was kind of seen as just that kind of crazy showbiz thing, that I think people like
L: mmhmm
F: i dunno about you and the people in the audience but i like my celebrities to be a bit crazy
L: yeh?
F: you know what i mean? I...
L: well you like for them to be a bit odd, to be different
F: o to be odd
L: to be mysterious
F: no, weird, is what i like (laughter) I want him to be watching the film with the elephant man sitting with him (acts like he's got his arm around someones shoulder) (laughter) thats what i want
(latoya enters and sits)
