I didn't have one of these last year and as Ipswich, Boro and Reading all have them I thought I might as well start one!
Last season we survived on the final day, this one should see us being a hell of a lot more comfortable!
On Monday we became the biggest spenders in the Championship this summer, we've since spent another £1.2m+ and are linked with Matt Mills and Dan Fox who will cost £2m+ each!
Players out: Ian Breckin (Chesterfield) Released Matt Thornhill (Brighton) Loan Isiah Osbourne (Aston Villa) Loan expired
Players in: Dele Adebola (Briston City) Bosman David McGoldrick (Southampton) £1m+ Paul McKenna (Preston) £750k Lee Camp (QPR) £100k Radaslaw Majewski (Polonia Warsaw) Loan (loan fee £130k) Chris Gunter (Spurs) £1.75m (was on loan) Joel Lynch (Brighton) £200k (was on loan) Paul Anderson (Liverpool) 250k(!) (was on loan) Dexter Blackstock (QPR) £1m+ (was on loan)
I can't wait for this season to begin, the chairman has finally realised that to be successful you need to back your manager and I can't think of anyone better than Billy Davies. 6 strikers who scored 70 Championship goals between them last season is something I'm looking forward to, though I can see Nathan Tyson being played on the left wing instead. He's impressive there and not good enough to play many games upfront ahead of those. I can't fault any of our signings, Paul Anderson for £250k is a steal, especially as Swansea had a £750k bid accepted before Martinez left! I would've liked a better goalie than Camp but he's already a cult hero for his two penalty saves for us last year, and for £100k you can't go wrong!
This Polish guy should be interesting ,22 year old midfielder with 5 caps. Said to be one of Poland's most exciting prospects but lost his way a bit this past year.
Our first 5 fixtures are pretty tough but will definitely give an indication of how well we can do.
Reading (A) West Brom (H) Watford (H) QPR (A) Derby (H)
If we can have 9 points after that lot I can see this being a very good season indeed.

dele adebola has always been one of my favourite strikers outside the premiership, on his day he is a beast! defenders just bounce off him, he seems to get better with age. then you go and add gunter, blackstock and mckenna in a week, all three quality players...spurs will regret letting gunter go, he looked a better player than bale and can play both right or left back. camp is a good championship keeper, for 100k that is another good deal. mcgoldrick is an odd one, a decent young player but it leaves you witha few to many strikers and for a million maybe that could have been spent on a position more in need of improving

Those look like some great signings. There isn't that much of a gulf between the top and bottom of the Championship so i wouldn't be shocked to see Forest top 10 this season.

Billy Davies is one of the few managers to be sacked for being too successful after getting Derby promoted to the Premiership before they were ready. I'd like to see him do well next season and maybe take Forest back to the Premier League in two or three years.

I'd like to see him do well next season and maybe take Forest back to the Premier League in two or three years. He certainly was a victim of his own success at Derby, the team he took up was awful. Although he did sign some absolute dross for a lot of money when they went up, that was my main doubt about him but he's signed some very good players so far. Our final two pre-season games were at home to Premiership opposition. A 1-1 draw with Stoke following a 2-1 victory over Birmingham, both played fairly strong sides and only Stoke had one player I'd never heard of before. Really pleased with that and I can't wait for next weekend. Rumours of a centre half and a left back to sign in the coming week, not so sure myself but I'd like to add at least one defender to the squad before the deadline...

On the subject of a Reading thread...there wont be one unless i have a dramatic change of heart later in the season! Gonna be a tough match nxt wkend and decidely more open than last season given rodgers attacking philosophy and the number of strikers you have! Expect a draw at worst tho, we really cant afford to start the season with a home defeat with our dreadful home form so far this year

0-0 with Reading. Same as last seasons opener. Pleased with that, but the game leaves us with three fit defenders!
Our bench today (the strongest I think I've ever seen if I'm honest) consisted of a goalkeeper, two wingers (who aren't defensive), an attacking CM and three strikers!
West Brom next after Bradford in the League Cup. They looked the same under Di Matteo as they did under Mowbray. Weak upfront, an excellent midfield and you always feel they'll gift you at least one opportunity to score. I'm not sure how Chris Brunt is still in the Championship though!

Not a bad result for us, had a strong feeling it would be either 0-0 or a 1-0 win for us! After going to Murty's testimonial it did concern me that despite our nice passing game we lacked a cutting edge. That combined with the fact that Forest rarely score at the Mad Stad (obviously apart from last season). We did seem to improve when we changed to 4-4-2 in the 2nd half but from what was said on Soccer Saturday it sounded a fair result.

So we finally got our first win of the season, a great game against our local rivals but it left me feeling fairly angry. With 1) Derby players 2) Robbie "Lily" Savage 3) The BBC 4) pre-emptive, but the FA. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLJDKND8YG8Nathan Tyson collects the flag and celebrates with it infront of OUR fans, he then starts what looks like would've been a lap of honour, and waves the flag at our fans sat above the Derby fans. Three Derby players then confront him and a brawl breaks out. Yet you'd think we were worse than West Ham and Millwall fans after the coverage it's recieved, especially from the BBC last night. I thought it was supposed to be an unbiased broadcaster? So if you're going to interview a player then that moron Savage would be the last person to interview and why make it look like it was entirely down to Tyson and our players?! Savage must also be thick as well as being a dirty tw*t, he actually celebrated with his scarf infront of our fans last season before going to the Derby fans, but we didn't care. Let him celebrate what was obviously a win that meant a hell of a lot. But we can't do the same and are made to look like the enemy by the BBC and Steve "Roy Cropper" Claridge. He must be the worst pundit there is, at leat Garth Crooks can be an entertaining moron. Still, he needed something to talk about last night as Newcastle don't play until tomorrow. The Football League Show really hasn't been any better than what ITV offered really, very disappointed. Cue a large fine and ban for Tyson from the FA whilst Derby get away virtually scot-free with a charge of failing to control their players!

Two 1-1 away draws, pleasing enough though I'd have happily had a win and a defeat instead. Annoying that Adebola was clean through in injury time last night before being brought down with a challenge that was never going to get the ball. A deserved red, but literally milimetres outside the penalty area so a free kick from a range which is far from ideal.
Doubly frustrating that in the last 3 matches we've conceded four goals, with all four coming from large deflections off out defenders giving the keeper little or no chance. Come on luck, sort it out!!

Just seen this, thought Tyson was just celebrating in front of the Derby fans so thanks for clearing it up. Was pleased he scored in that game, it was a surprise to see him even starting given the number of strikers you have! The Football League Show is better than the Championship imo, no dodgy camera angles, and more importantly more coverage of each division (though im not interested in most of the lower 2 divisions just selected teams).

I'm surprised they've not punished Tyson yet for something in August, but Adebayor has been. I'm hoping he'll get the same (a fine) but I imagine it will be larger. He shouldn't have done it, and he was probably wrong, but it was blown well out of proportion and he didn't just go over to the Derby fans.
3 wins in 3, going from just outside the releagation zone to just outside the play-offs in 7 days! I'm glad we're getting the points we've been deserving of, our highest position for years!

That's why i'm hoping we'll eventually finish mid-table this season. Its so tight that back to back wins can take you right up the table.

It's gonna be a close one.
Looking at the table, apart from Cardiff, no-one's managed to be good both home and away. The teams that have been good at home have been rubbish away and vice-versa.

We've managed to turn it around a bit now with 3 home wins, 12 points from home, 10 away. Us and Leeds are also the only teams in the entire football league who haven't lost away from home...

I still can't believe we're only 1 point off the top. With a decent manager we'd be 9 points clear by now.

Forest deserved their win against the Toon last Saturday. They were the better side by far and could be contenders for promotion if they continue to play like they are doing at the moment.

I think we deserved a point against Cardiff for our overall play. We're a very good passing side but were definitely missing the attacking trio of Tyson, Earnshaw and Blackstock today. Garner and Adebola are fairly useless... Pleasing to remain the only unbeaten team away from home in the entire football league!
