I think it'll either be X Factor or this 'Rage Against the Machine' that has this campaign thing going. I wonder if Miley will go top 10 with The Climb like Jeff Buckley did with Hallelujah last year. I doubt it personally.

I wonder if Miley will go top 10 with The Climb like Jeff Buckley did with Hallelujah last year. I doubt it personally. How successful do we think the RATM campaign might be? Over 500,000 supporters on Facebook but many of those probably won't actually download the song. Still, the bookies are taking it seriously and have it as odds-on favourite to be Christmas #2. Simon Cowell seems to be getting very defensive all of a sudden as well. I wonder if they'll do a Bruno Brookes on the chart show and play the uncensored version...

Holly Wells will be Christmas No.1. How is a dead girl going to be number 1 or have I missed something?

I have changed my mind if people are downloading that rage crap , i will be buying X Factor no matter who or what song it is because at least it has a chance to beat Rage. When i heard that Rage song i was left feeling very cold.

dead people have reached #1 before but it usually helps for them to have a back catalogue

When i heard that Rage song i was left feeling very cold. I went to Youtube and it's only 93 seconds long and non-stop F words. There's apparently a censored version but that's probably just 15 seconds long!!

Killing In The Name Of reached NM #5 in 1993. I usually cite that as an example of how bad 1993 was for music: that it reached the top 5 just because it was about the only thing that had a guitar in it (i.e. wasn't reggae).

I don't like the X-Factor single being the Christmas #1 every year but in the British charts the song that sells the most every week is the #1.
No-one twists anyone's arm to buy the single - it's just an unfortunate fact of life.
If Rage Against The Machine released on CD I would buy it, though.

I've been generally guilty as I have bought all of the X-Factor singles so far except Against All Odds and When You Believe.

Although Rage haven't released anything for years this is the most relevant song to be released at xmas for a number of years. Zack de la Rocha is a big supporter of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, a guerrilla army that abstain from using their weapons that represent the poor indigenous communities in southern Mexico, they fight for what is rightfully theirs, control over their local resources and land because that the Mexican govermnent abused their power until the indigenous people had nothing left.
Tom Morello and Serj Tankian (from System of a Down) have also started a non-profit organization called Axis of Justice that brings people together to fight for social justice and promote promote anti-racist and anti-fascist messages.
Aswel as being firmly against George Bush during their administration Rage have also started a campaign along with Pearl Jam and R.E.M among other bands to close Guantanamo Prison, calling also for the declassification of military records regarding the use of music in torture...
Their songs speak for themself and always have a clear message of doing what is socially right without compramise or conforming to what people of power say you should do. People like simon cowell saying this song is great buy it and amaizingly people do however bad it is.
If you don't get the message then i feel sorry for you
and any song which contains 17 iterations of the word f*** gets my vote for xmas number one lol

The X-Factor single does however benefit from a four month advertising campaign on prime time television. Then there's the acres of free publicity in the tabloids plus the BBC adding to it by regularly spending more time discussing X-Factor than the chart on what is supposed to be the chart show.
