OK. So there I am, browsing in a second hand record store, looking for Cardiacs CDs, no luck as per. But I did find a sullen off-gold album cover, and when I opened to have a peek inside a genie popped out.
"Haaa!! At last I am free from my prison!!! For gratitude, I will grant you one wish."
"One?"
"Well, the economy's screwed. And, as I am a musical djinn, the wish is musical based. You shall have one number one hit. One. But...you can choose the chart."
"Coolio. So I could have a number one in Iceland?"
"Yes, if you're a raving mentalist. So pick one, I will let you set up an internet poll if you wish."
So, here it is. I whittled it down to the four important charts, as far as the UK record industry is concerned...but which one would you choose?

Well I picked UK album number one. Personally, I'm not interested in UK artists breaking America, I understand it's a massive thing to do, but I'm just not impressed by it. I'd always want to do well in the place I'm from and I picked album as effectively thats a group of about 12 songs at the top spot rather than just the one.

I'd choose number one album in the US. Album because it's where more money would be made, and it's more of a body of work being appreciated rather than just a one off track, and the US because it's a bigger market, harder to make it big in, and so would seem like a bigger achievement.

UK Number one album for me.
The singles chop n change that much and dont seem to have anymore meaning now a days.
For America...Too big and wouldnt be as personal as cracking home.

US #1 single for me. I'd stay there for 6 months like the BEPs.

I'd go with US number 1 album. Singles in both countries are far too much about marketing, albums are a bit more serious, and I'd rather 300m people get the chance to hear my stuff than 60m.

UK singles for me.
I've never followed the US charts.
As for UK albums... occasionally... when there are a couple of strong artists out the same week, its interesting to see how it pans out.

UK album , i don't like most of the USA music it is mostly rubbish so apart from getting more money it wouldn't really mean much a USA number 1 album. Our charts are better.

UK Single - as more people get to hear at least one song on the radio and on TV

UK album - probably the best indication that your offer is both popular and interesting
most US hits are too generic, and singles rarely hit #1 on musical merit
