The South Bank Show: Will Young
From backstage at TV shows such as The X Factor, Top Gear and Question Time, to filming access-all-areas at the launch gig for his latest album in London, The South Bank Show gives a unique insight into the world of Will Young.
It’s an intensely personal and intimate journey through the working life of the chart star, who was the first musician to emerge from the wave of reality talent shows that has revolutionised the music industry in Britain.
Since winning Pop Idol in 2002, Will has broken out of the mould of manufactured pop star and gone on to become a multi-million selling singer songwriter and a respected live performer.
With exclusive and intimate access to Will’s life and work, Matt Cain’s self-shot South Bank Show documentary follows the artist as he promotes his latest album Let It Go, rehearses for a sell-out theatre tour of the UK, and prepares to celebrate his 30th birthday.
The programme also hits the road with the star, following him on tour to Newcastle, Manchester and Brighton, and filming the gig at London’s Camden Roundhouse. Whilst on tour, director Matt Cain takes Young to the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester to talk about his recent performance there, acting in Noel Coward's play The Vortex. When the tour arrives in Brighton, Will takes The South Bank Show to his holiday home in the city.
Other highlights of the film include footage shot in Iceland on the set of Will’s latest video for the single Let It Go, and an exclusive look at his recent appearance at the Oxford Union.
The South Bank Show: Will Young, Tuesday March 17th, 10.35pm
I thought we had a thread for this already but couldn't find anything!
Great to finally have a date for this now, 17th March. So not too much longer to wait! It'll be a great insight to Will and something us fans will be waiting to see with eager! It sounds a cracking show and i hope they show a good bit of the Roundhouse gig.
