I had a bit of a question to pose to people. Of all those who made it to the live shows, who are people's top 20s?
I was thinking it over, and really don't set much sight by many of the winning contestants of the series' gone by.
Of the 85 contestants that have made it through to the live stages, who make up your top 20s (just on their performances on the X Factor, as contestants)
List of all contestants: (to serve as a reminder) 2 To Go 4Sure 4Tune Addictiv Ladies Aiden Grimshaw Alexandra Burke Alisha Bennett Andy Abraham Andy Williams Ashley McKenzie Austin Drage Bad Lashes Belle Amie Ben Mills Beverley Trotman Brenda Edwards Cassie Compton Chenai Zinyuku Cher Lloyd Chico Slimani Daniel DeBourg Daniel Evans Danyl Johnson Diana Vickers Dionne Mitchell Diva Fever Emily Nakanda Eoghan Quigg Eton Road F.Y.D. Futureproof G4 Girlband Hope JLS Jamie Archer Joe McElderry John & Edward John Adeleye Journey South Kandy Rain Katie Waissel Kerry McGregor Kimberley Southwick Laura White Leon Jackson Leona Lewis Lloyd Daniels Lucie Jones Maria Lawson Mary Byrne Matt Cardle Miss Frank Nicholas Dorsett Nicolo Festa Niki Evans Nikitta Angus Olly Murs One Direction Paije Richardson Phillip Magee Rachel Adedeji Rachel Hylton Ray Quinn Rebecca Ferguson Rhydian Roberts Rikki Loney Robert Allen Roberta Howett Rowetta Satchell Ruth Lorenzo Same Difference Scott Bruton Shayne Ward Stacey Solomon Steve Brookstein Storm Lee Tabby Callaghan The Conway Sisters The MacDonald Brothers The Unconventionals Treyc Cohen Verity Keays Voices With Soul Wagner
Then compile your top 20 solely based on musical output, post the show, and in the case of the winners, excluding the winners' single, I realise series 7 contestants will thus be excluded from this list, so slightly unfair, but I guess we could kickstart this thread again as the months go by...)
Top 20 Contestants: 20. One Direction 19. Ray Quinn 18. CHico Slimani 17. Journey South 16. Tabby Callaghan 15. Olly Murs 14. Austin Drage 13. JLS 12. Rebecca Ferguson 11. Chenai Zinyuku 10. Danyl Johnson 09. Diana Vickers 08. Matt Cardle 07. Rhydian Roberts 06. Alexandra Burke 05. Leona Lewis 04. Andy Abraham 03. Ruth Lorenzo 02. Brenda Edwards 01. Laura White

Yes, but Alex Parks had actual talent, so that was never going to be allowed.

Alexandra Burke - the best combination of personality, voice and performing-capacity. I really hope she makes it big in the US!
I like Leona, but there's something about her that just leaves me a little bit cold. Not sure if it's her personality, but I enjoy her songs, but don't really feel there's much passion behind them.

This should be in the Reality TV forum.
Anyway my clear #1 is still:
1. Brenda Edwards
followed by: 2. Alexandra Burke 3. Rhydian Roberts (although he was bad in the final) 4. G4 (they were interesting at the time) 5. Chico (was quite funny)
Of their output afterwards:
1. Unconventionals (!!) 2. Tabby Callaghan (just one hit in my chart, King Of The Town, but pretty good) 3. Andy Abraham (Hang Up and December Brings Me Back To You not the Eurovision one) 4. Brenda Edwards 5. Olly Murs

Rhydian probably was too. Leona is good at singing one type of song only.

Laura had 5 times as much personality and consistency (regarding vocals)! Her versatility surpassed most of whom performed on the show too! T'was a FIX she went out as early as she did...if it had happened like that just this year, I practically guarantee the uproar of Gamu multiplied by FIVE at least, just for re-instation x

The highest peaking single in my chart by an X-Factor act is actually in my chart at the moment. "Long Distance Christmas" by the Unconventionals at #7 (may rise in the next chart too). And they are also one of the 3 who had a #9 hit previously (with Tabby and Andy Abraham). They are not being given the promotion that some other X-Factor artists have but this is the song that got them to be voted by me in first place:
