It looks as if Joe McElderry's luck has run out and he has been dropped by Simon Cowell. Not a big surprise though given the low sales he has had. From MSN:
Music boss Simon Cowell has reportedly dropped X Factor winner Joe McElderry from his record label.
The 19-year-old won the 2009 series of The X Factor but it's claimed record company Syco has now dropped him after his career failed to take off.
McElderry is now said to be living back at his mum's home in Tyneside after moving out of the exclusive London apartment he moved into last year.
A source said to UK newspaper Daily Mail: "Joe is devastated. His mum has been comforting him. He believed he could have a great music career.
"Although he is still on Syco's books, his deal runs out in about a month and it won't be renewed."
The singer was mentored by Cheryl Cole during the 2009 series of the hit talent show and was a favourite with fans before going on to win the show.

I think this will be the norm rather than the exception with X-Factor winners.

Certainly looks to be the fate of the male winners. Both Leona and Alexandra have survived well. Wonder what fate lies in store for Matt Cardle?

I think Alexandra will be next to go. They really need to make a better album than her last if they want her to last long. I think Matt will do well with his album.

I dunno, it did sell pretty well although the deluxe edition was a flop. Her tour was a bit low key compared to Leona's however so next album will probably be make or break.

oh poor Joe never understood where did all his fans go?? I mean, people voted for him in thousands but then no one bought the album. be consequent voting people!!!!!!! I think Alexandra is super safe. People love her. They even took that abomination of a song called Start Without You to #1. Her Deluxe album didn't do that well cos they promoted it with an album track (The Silence) as opposed to a newie... otherwise...

I think it was all down to the choice of musical style. It was very different from the stuff he was singing week in week out on X Factor and it alienated the audience. I reckon he will be a big success on the West End as he has the sort of voice which will fit in there.

It's not the first time the voting public have been shown to be morons.

it's as simple as people just don't have the money to buy average pop songs. his best song was a miley cyrus cover and people liked him because he was new and the next big thing, yeah x factor winner, wow. a year later bored, lets listen to something else, afterall most of his fans would be kids or fans of the show who in turn a year later have a new act or two to follow. maybe he will be best off on the west end anyway, good luck to him

Do you not think that they left him on the shelf too long before releasing material? He was out of the public eye before the followed up with album.

As I said on another site I posted on at the time to fans of his, I predicted this would happen as his sole purpose on the show was to make Cheryl Cole look good as a mentor.
Once he won, he never stood a chance because Simon Cowell was never interested in him in the slightest as he clearly much preferred the older male singer Olly Murs who got given original material unlike poor Joe.
You can virtually guarantee it now that in 12 months time Matt Cardle & Rebecca Ferguson will have got their P45s whilst that annoying 17th rate Jessie J impersonator Cher Lloyd; and vile boyband 1Direction will still be going strong.
Because like Rupert Murdoch with the British Government; Police and establishment; What Simon Cowell wants = Simon Cowell gets.

Very true Raliverpool, if its not to Simons liking then its not for the world to see.
A pity too, as I quite liked Joe.

but I never understand how people can spend so much money on phone calls during the shows and then they cannot spend 50 cents on a single or 10 bucks on an album?? like for instance I was reading the other day about the guy who won the last American Idol, funnily I cannot remember his name now but the article was saying that during AI he got in total like 50 million votes (thru the whole show) or something, and then he puts an album out and boom only 10,000 people buy it how you go from 50 million to 10 thousand??

I think a lot of the people who watch shows like AI and XF do not follow music and the charts much. Asking them to keep up with releases of acts they followed nearly 12 months previously is a step too much in most cases.

Never expected Joe to do good in selling music. He should do the musicals - people like his voice only together with his babyface. I also expect Matt no to do well... Olly is doing well only because he is a good entertainer while Matt isn't.

I had noticed that the men are more likely to win but when a woman does win she is more likely to do well afterwards.
Joe should try to write his own songs or find songwriting teams instead of relying on Mr Cowell to do it all for him. He should think of his release from Syco as freedom to do his own thing...
Olly Murs has done better than him after finishing 2nd in the same series.

but I never understand how people can spend so much money on phone calls during the shows and then they cannot spend 50 cents on a single or 10 bucks on an album?? A single does not cost 50 cents, if it's a X-Factor artist it probably costs 99p. the call to the show costs 10p I think, possibly 25p but when you make the call you are not physically handing money over, or going somewhere where it says if you click this button a certain amount will be charged to your card. So it's much easier to hand over your money that way. People watch the show for entertainment with no intention of buying their music afterwards, particularly the music they don't actually hear on the show. And those who do have an interest in the artist will not necessarily buy their music if they don't like the sound of it. I do not happen to think his output was that outstanding. Olly Murs did, in my opinion, manage one great song after - "Thinking Of Me".

I wonder how much more time Shayne Ward has got. Did they even release a second single from Obsession?

It was always on the cards for Joe, it seems male winners don't stick around. I think Matt Cardle will be alright he has his band to fall back onto.
I think Shayne Ward is on a different label
