I didn’t know Foreigner were British. That’s a very misleading band name! To be fair to them, they are foreigners almost everywhere.

Kirsty MacColl was pregnant with Jamie at the time of A New England. She ended up dying to save his life from the boat that was about to hit him. Such an incredible woman, she was..

Don Henley looked like he had Miss Jones from Rising Damp on drums!

Shaky’s 50th appearance! Did anyone ever manage more?
I had no idea The Commodores had a single which reached as high as number 3 this far into the 80s. God, that’s a boring record.
Watching Madonna doing Material Girl it occurred to me that a key element of the incredibly successful campaign to make her a global megastar was the fact that lots of her songs were about herself. I guess artists had traditionally been quite separate from their songs, this was a clever change.

Still got a few shows to catch up on but some quick thoughts on The Story of 1985 show which I watched live.
Interesting that this was the year they introduced the breakers, and will also be interesting how it works when the show gets shortened for good later in the year. I'm assuming that they'll stop the Top 10 video countdown which will be a shame.
The Janice Long/John Peel shows look like they'll be good fun.
As good as these shows are I think i'm going to start watching them once the year's episodes have finished. For someone who's never seen the shows before and has no knowledge of the show at all really before I started watching in 1990 they act as too much of a spoiler for me. They also finish with a nice preview of the following year too.

Simon Bates and that other guy whose name I’ve forgotten completely look like two old men presenting a show for young people. It’s seven years until the big shake up at Radio 1 but it’s already started to look long overdue.
Gutted that we didn’t get to see Billy Bragg doing Between The Wars. That’s one of my favourite songs ever.
“I kept the faith and I kept on voting Not for the iron fist but for the helping hand For theirs is a land with a wall around it Mine is a faith in my fellow man”
I had that on repeat for weeks after the EU referendum...

I watched the two eps. together and so had You spin me round at #1, then at #20 in the countdown, very surreal!

That was on the episode that should have been shown as it had Mike Read and Steve Wright as presenters, but wasn't I think because of video quality.

I love that song so much it’s silly, almost brings a tear to my eye! It sums up my own beliefs so perfectly that I desperately wish I’d written it myself! His song Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards is a work of genius too.

I watched the whole of that episode on one of the links I was provided. The quality of what I watched wasn't great but I'd rather they'd have shown it.
I looked up to see how that song did in my chart. Apparently #10. By the way, there are 2 weeks of combi-chart missing from the archive around that time. Not in the archive and not on the main retro forum. Did they get totally deleted?

New Model Army were the pick of the 1st ep. this week.
Have people stopped reviewing each ep.?

Kim Wilde - Rage to love and U2 - The unforgettable fire my best bits of the 2nd ep. also had forgotten about the Untouchables and Free yourself at the end of the show.

Marc Almond and Jimmy Somerville were the highlight of Thursday's episode. Obviously they were great on Friday too but that episode also had Paul Hardcstle.

I haven't given up on this thread, I've just not been keeping up with my recordings. After Thursday though I will have 2 weeks at home recuperating from an operation, at least one day will be a TotP fest
