Which of these songs in the year 1971 in your view should not have been #1, I am doing polls for the whole Seventies this time, once we have 10 winners (we have to split up some years there is not enough options on a poll to match the #1's in a year plus joint winners) we will have a last poll to decide which song out of the years 1970-1979 should not have been #1.
These are 3 day polls this time.
Happy Voting

Hard to decide, because most of them are absolutely awful.

Not a good year. Only about 4 records from this list did deserve to be #1.

Dear lord there's some spectacular rubbish in this list. This is around the time I was beginning to develop an interest in music what with starting secondary school and all that. I'm surprised I didn't look at the quality of the number ones and give up.

I have actually decided to change my vote here. Was going to vote for something rather twee but decided to go for a sickly sweet ballad by a major artist who is capable of a lot better.

I would predict that "Grandad" is the most likely winner here. I think people have a general enough liking for "Ernie...", possibly one of the best songs of its type. "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" is also very twee and might pick up a lot of votes. There are also those who votes for the classics that everyone else thinks is a great song, so I wouldn't expect "Maggie May" to end up empty handed though I'd be shocked if it won.

The winner of this one will be a strong contender for the decade champion, especially with the Sun Readers' votes for Glitter being split.

Grandad is pretty dire though I never hated it as much as the Grandma one, perhaps because the kids sing on Grandad only in the chorus whereas on Grandma they sing the entire song.
I reckon the decade vote will be between this one and JJ Barrie, both of which won on a landslide, although Chuck Berry and Telly Savalas may also put in a decent challenge. Not sure what way Glitter haters will go.
Leo Sayer is the only one from the 70s I don't think will get any votes in the final.

So Clive Dunn "Grandad" goes through to the decade final.

I would in general agree that all the songs here that didn't get any votes are probably better than all those that did get at least one vote.
