You are definitely not alone. The world is full of music snobs
Why is it musical snobbery? And I'd hardly say it applies for Adele anyway, it's not like the album hasn't received (generally) universal critical praise. I don't like being called a music snob, purely because I'm not. I think I can notice a decent song when I hear one, and at least see why people buy music even if I personally think it's terrible. With Adele I think Rolling In The Deep is a cracking tune, fully deserving of being one of the highest sellers of the year, I can also see why she's so popular even if it's not my cup of tea, but I also think that Someone Like You is one of the worst songs I've heard all year. It's just so horribly boring and cliched, and her wailing voice goes right through me. I like that review because it's A) funny and B) shows what a wonderful thing music is. One of the things Someone Like You has been praised so much for is how amazing the emotive and heartfelt lyrics are. That review just shows how incredible music is, and that it can be interpreted in so many ways.
I don't really know what's worse. The concept of 'musical snobbery' in the first place, or people who like mainstream music dismissing any criticism of popular songs is 'musical snobbery'.
Surely Aidan Moffat's snobbery is in the assumption that the song wasn't intended to be interpreted in the way that he does and that he's big and clever to think of it? Well, that and his being famous enough to have written it in the first place.
Just for the record, I don't like the track that much myself.
