They're the type of act that's playing because that's the type of act that draws a crowd now. Festivals are now just as popular with young teens and early 20s wanting to have a fun weekend away watching their favourite pop acts...

Frank Turner is also on the list but I'm not excessively impressed by the line-up.

if people want to go to a pop festival there are plenty, v festival, big weekend, glasto recently although its not on this year, or create a new one, don't put that sh*t on a rock festival. its not like they did it to sell tickets because it sells out in minutes

To be fair looking at the line-up last year they had N-Dubz, Beyonce, The Script, Kesha, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Chase & Status, Tinie Tempah, Bruno Mars, Labrinth, The Saturdays and Chipmunk.
So what's the problem this year? A few of them are playing again but you have Jessie for Bruno, The Wanted for the Saturdays etc. I don't get why it has to be an issue. I'll never understand why someone wouldn't go to a festival because it has a few mainstream pop acts they don't like, it's not like you have to see them. There are half a dozen stages and there's always likely to be someone you'll enjoy playing at any one time. And the likes of Example, Tinie, Calvin and Chase & Status are hugely enjoyed by a typical festivalgoer anyway.

The fact is there used to be rock festivals, indie festivals, metal festivals and pop festivals, but now they have diluted the "specialist" festivals with radio crap, now every festival every year is the same sh*t with bland boring acts like coldplay, kings of leon and snow patrol taking turns to headline what is essentially a radio one playlist. we are spoon fed the same tripe and those who want to choose not to listen to that crap are now forced out of going to something they have done for 10 year, it is a rock festival, i don't mind the odd pop act, it breaks the day up, but it is 90% pop, whats the point, for every pop act going they take the place of a real band. whats wrong with booking bands that are doing festivals such as the black keys, feeder, maximo park, the subways, foo fighters, tenacious d, james, jack white, biffy clyro, ed sheeran, noah and the whale, pearl jam, madness, bruce springsteen, ash, kiss, wolfmother, queen, evanesence etc. if you want pop go to a pop festival i wouldnt go to download and expect katy perry

to be fair there are still lots of names to be confirmed and I would think that some of those bands are still possibles.

thats what i thought the last few years, but it didn't get much better, the initial announcement sets the trend. what use is adding decent bands after tickets have sold out this lineup has 15 year old kids with neon tutus acting like tw*ts written all over it, full chavs thinking they are hard carrying knives and causing trouble. i was hoping this would be the year they see sense and go back to a few year ago when they had a mix of the best bands in the world mixed with all styles of music including pop. The Verve Stereophonics KT Tunstall Newton Faulkner Rage Against the Machine The Fratellis The Kooks Biffy Clyro The Feeling Kate Nash R.E.M. Kings of Leon Amy Winehouse Shed Seven Bowling for Soup The Chemical Brothers Feeder Scouting for Girls The Wombats Kaiser Chiefs The Raconteurs The Pigeon Detectives We Are Scientists The Courteeners The Subways The Prodigy The Zutons Panic at the Disco Goo Goo Dolls The Hoosiers Powderfinger One Night Only Little Man Tate The Futureheads The Music Alphabeat Los Campesinos! Ian Brown The Pogues Reverend & The Makers Primal Scream The Charlatans Pendulum Echo & the Bunnymen Vampire Weekend British Sea Power The Ting Tings Delays Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly Aphex Twin Justice Interpol Ben Folds MGMT Lightspeed Champion Will Young Seasick Steve Paul Heaton Hot Chip The National Air Traffic Cajun Dance Party The Rascals Glasvegas The Script White Lies Gabriella Cilmi Elliot Minor Black Kids Yeasayer Blood Red Shoes Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong Bombay Bicycle Club

Festivals are now just as popular with young teens and early 20s wanting to have a fun weekend away watching their favourite pop acts... As I discovered at Lounge On the Farm last year, made me feel quite old lol. This was true to such an extent that anyone was allowed into the cow shed (the main dance area which used to be the main stage), even saw kids earlier in the evening which i couldn't understand, and that caused all kinds of problems on the Sat night I was there, although i was oblivious to most of it. I hear this changed for the Sunday to over 18s but it led to complaints subsequently and the organisers decided to relinquish their licence and put a new one in. Hasn't deterred me from going again this year though.. for my birthday as it falls on the perfect weekend for me

Those headliners are more appealing than i've noticed in other years since i went in 2007.. was considering going if Lounge on the farm hadn't returned this year.

Good post, Example played at LONTF last year and was looking forward to seeing him, but missed him because it took so long waiting to get a drink at the main bar i gave up and got one in the cowshed instead, (which took no time at all!) and just stayed there for the rest of his set. As one of the people i was with last year said, it doesn't matter who performs at LONTF, its just a great festival, even with the odd minor problem that may crop up. It says a lot when my highlights of the festival were either people i'd not heard of before, (or more specifically someone who wasn't even billed in the programme as performing at all!) or just parts of the site i wasn't expecting to enjoy that much. The first line-up announcement is coming on Tuesday and whilst i'll be interested to see who the headliners are, im not fussed about the line-up in general as i know there will something to enjoy regardless
