Anyone there/going? Just watching the highlights from last night, Hives were excellent! And why wouldn't Paramore let the bbc film them? Was hoping we might see some Black Keys, no luck yet...

First year I havent been since 1999. Maybe Paramore wouldnt let the BBC film them as they are one of the dullest bands I have ever seen live and this is coming from someone who has all their albums.

my opinion of paramore has gone right down after that... not that it was particularly high in the first place.

Maybe Paramore were debuting some new material and didn't want decent recordings leaking on to the internet.

IT was quite an hour of TV! Didn't enjoy the uncomfortable/awkward banter between Ricky Wilson and Greg James before it though.

Friday
Of Monsters and Men - Opening act on the NME stage, reminded me of a folky Icelandic Arcade Fire. I have listened to their album so knew all about them, both my mates enjoyed them aswel, perfect start to a festival 8/10
Band of Skulls - I like their singles and they came across well live, they were only up against Howler so we decided to give them a go, didn't go down as well as Of Monsters and Men but pretty good for early in the day 7/10
Eagles of Death Metal - Minus Josh Homme which was disappointing but they made up for it with the lead singers mental banter and classic guitar rock, they were a highlight of the first day for me, played all their hits and were faultless, great music, great banter and lots of drunk young girls flashing their boobs on screen 8.5/10
The Gaslight Anthem - I have seen them live a few times on TV at other festivals and they always seem to perform well live, their new songs went down really well especially 45, glad we saw them, continued the trend of not seeing a bad act yet 7.5/10
Reginald D Hunter - There was a gap in bands we wanted to see so we then headed to the comedy tent to catch a comedy act but it was packed out the tent so we stood outside for 10 minutes listening and decided to head off to see a band instead, Didn't hear enough to rate him though
The Joy Formidable - That band was The Joy Formidable, i knew very little about them, think i knew one song but i am glad we went to see them, they were full of energy and considering i knew nothing about them they impressed me, came away a fan 7/10
Kaiser Chiefs - We pretty much wanted a good spot for Black Keys and The Foo's so headed to see the Kaiser Chiefs, they actually rocked out, i can't believe how good they were, they played hit after hit and looked like they were really enjoying it, when i saw them 4 year ago they were a bit hit and miss but they were on form 8.5/10
The Black Keys - I have loved The Black Keys for 10 year and this was my first chance to see them live and i wasn't disappointed, what more can i say, they were great, played a good mix of old and new songs, "Little Black Submarines" was amazing live 9/10
Foo Fighters - This is the 2nd time i have seen them live and they are still amazing, probably the best live rock band of my generation still at the top. They played for 2 hours and 45 minutes, every single hit, it even started to rain but that did little to dampen the experience, the only fault i have is they seem to dick about to much with their songs live, extending them, changing them, playing to the crowd, stopping and starting, fair enough change it up but not every song, that stopped them being a 10 for me 9/10

Saturday
Deaf Havana - Norfolks finest alternative rock band, they came across really well, i have their latest album and its pretty good, they seemed really appreciative about being given a chance to open the main stage and did it well 7/10
Hadouken! - Full of energy and a nice change from all the guitar pop rock, their new stuff is pretty much dubstep, i loved their debut album and their new stuff is pretty good so i really enjoyed them, i often hear they are pretty poor live but they were really good musically apart from the odd vocal slip up, they were a highlight of the day for me 8.5/10
Coheed & Cambria - Standard pop punk, didn't really get into them, not really my thing but there was nothing much on and by this point we were just laid on the grass eating pizza chilling, first real lull of the festival 5/10
Spector - Again we ended up sitting chilling near the back, apart from Chevy Thunder they were pretty much a w**k version of The Vaccines, trying to hard to impress the 14 year old hipsters, when they stated saying boom boom boom...let me hear you say (wayo) i was ready to leave. If it wasn't for that one good song they would of been a 5 but they scrape 6/10
The Hives - Considering all we wanted to do was sit down and chill for the past hour or so i was worried we wouldn't enjoy The Hives but they put on one of the performances of the day, everything about it just rocked, they were interesting, engaging the crowd, playing hit after hit, they got us on our feet singing along, we loved them 9/10
Passion Pit - I only knew a few songs but i liked what i knew and they had the young crowd rocking right from the start, a good atmosphere always makes for a good show, they were exactly how i thought they would be live if not better, a solid performance and again a good change musically from previous acts we had seen 7.5/10
Graham Coxon - He played the same stage just after Passion Pit but lost the crowd early on after pretty much saying the crowd was sh*t because they were not enjoying his new material which to be honest was very forgettable, he then complained about the gap between the stage and the fans causing a lack of atmosphere but believe me nobody else had that problem on the same stage Hadouken, The Hives, Passion Pit all had the crowd going that same day, he then walked to the back of the stage in a huff not happy with his guitar and the crowd started booing him, it was cringe worthy and my biggest disappointment of the weekend, poor atmosphere, poor new material, poor attitude 3/10
Veronica Falls Thanks to darkstar79 we decided last minute to check these out live instead of Paramore and The Courteeners mostly to get a good spot to see The Subways, we got in the front row and they were really good live, they even did their own sound check (and nobody realized it was the band), i will be checking more out by them in the near future 7.5/10
The Subways This is the 3rd time i have seen them live and they always full of energy and rock out, they engaged the crowd, got everyone crowd surfing, the singer even went crowd surfing himself and one of the stewards tried to kick him out the tent cos he didn't realize he was in the band ha, great songs, great live band and Charlotte was looking hot 9/10
The Maccabees With The Subways finishing well into The Cures set we decided to see The Maccabees as it's Hupins favorite band, Personally i liked a lot of their set but for me they don't have enough hits to headline the 2nd stage for me, very bland in parts, they were no better than bands like Los Campesinos! who only opened the next day 6/10

Sunday
Los Campesinos! - Another one of Hupins favorite bands at the moment, I didn't realize how many people are actually in Los Campesinos! They were a solid opening act, some catchy songs and Hupin enjoyed himself, for me they put on a better show than the Maccabees the night before 7.5/10
Blood Red Shoes - Again i have heard bad things about them live but they were engaging and faultless really, they have a couple of songs i like and played them well, a good start to the day after a bit of a mixed bag yesterday 7/10
Twin Atlantic - We just laid outside in the sun watching them on the big screen, i had seen them before opening for Biffy Clyro so i knew what to expect, they were ok, not really that familiar with their stuff so it all kinda merged into background noise so i won't give them a rating, infact i think i had a nap
Dry The River - We continued our sunbathing outside the big screen (just aswel cos it rained half an hour later), Dry The River were god though, i have their album so i appreciated their stuff more even though we were watching it on the big screen, it was very enjoyable, great music to relax to 7/10
The Shins - We headed to the main stage to catch The Shins, it rained during all of their set but their poppy songs wen't down well and a large crowd stayed to watch all the set, they were good live and despite the rain which left us drenched for the next few hours we enjoyed their set 7.5/10 (if it didn't rain it might of been an 8/8.5)
Mick Ferry and Nathan Caton - We headed to the comedy tent to avoid the rain and warm up, it was relaxed, everyone was sitting down and we caught these two comedy acts, i really enjoyed them both and wished we had seen a few more comics during the weekend but it was a small tent so the big acts were full and they often clashed with bands we wanted to see. Mick Ferry 7.5/10 Nathan Caton 8/10
Billy Talent - Hupin went to see The Vaccines and i went to see these and i'm glad i did, pop punk band from Canada similar to Green Day (who never played Leeds) and Sum 41. They were great live and really humble which is rare for a band playing so high up the bill 8.5/10
Hupin went to see The Vaccines and despite being a fan he said he wished he didn't, they highlight for him was when a 14 year old hipster was showing off crowd surfing nearly kicked a young girls head off her dad grabbed him and body slammed him to the floor, amazing
Young Guns - Full of kids, classic American Emo pop punk, arrogant singer, we refused to see Florence and the Machine and half The Cribs set clashed with Feeder (who we all wanted to see) so we watched the band in the same tent as Feeder just to get to the front, they were ok, Hupin hated it though 5/10
Feeder - Hit after hit after hit, the tent was packed right out the door despite clashing with The Cribs and Kasabian. Both young and old appreciated their songs, for me this was the highlight of the whole festival, i have seen Feeder live 4 times and they never get boring, the crowd gave a standing ovation to almost every song and you could see how much it meant to the band, this is how it is done, they played all the hits, no f***ing about 10/10
Kasabian - We went to catch the last hour of Kasabian after Feeder, they were ok but way over hyped, we ended up leaving when they tried to extend a 3 minute pop song to last 8 minutes but we caught a good few songs and left before their encore 7.5/10
At The Drive In We managed to catch the last 3 songs of At The Drive In including One Armed Scissor, we wanted to atleast pop in to say we saw a few songs live, they will not be around long and it was a one off opportunity, the band were on top form, they had a 5 year old up playing a drum when we got their, we caught their best song so for us it was the perfect way to end the weekend 8/10

Get the Joy Formidable's album it was the best one to be released last year in my view and they are amazing live. Also the Kaiser Chiefs are one of the best live bands around and you have put the exact reasons why they are. Give me them any day of the week over a dull, bland hipster band. Also if you havent you should check out the Billy Talent albums they are a great band and they are in my top 3 gigs of all time.

my opinion of paramore has gone right down after that... not that it was particularly high in the first place. A friend of mine and her other half both love them, I do not and have never seen the facination in them, let alone all the butt-licking from Kerrang.

I went to Reading in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and that's it so far!. Feeder are one of my fave bands and was going to go to this year's festival after hearing they were playing. After reading that 10/10, I'm now gutted I did not go!!, I didn't go as festivals are getting expensive and have not been to any since the aforementioned 2008. I was thinking of going though despite all that, but the money issues made me think otherwise. Hotel owners jacking up their prices during festival time is just not on and was the main factor towards me not going, as I was thinking of saving money by getting a day ticket and not staying on the campsite, but as the prices of hotels go up, it defeats the object and the total cost of money I would have spent, just to go to the festival would have been nearly the same price as going the whole weekend camping.
Bring on the November Feeder tour I say, that will make up for it if the show in Brixton is the same as that Reading one. Saying about how far the tent was filled in your review, I totally agree with and know where you are coming from. I was there in 2002 to see Feeder, Muse, Foo Fighters and Weezer. During Feeder's set, they played the Evening Session tent, which is best known as the Radio 1 tent now. The crowd went far back to the outside of the tent, the band were rocking and played hit after hit, with album track classics thrown in and a few new tracks from "Comfort in Sound" before it came out. It was the first show after Jon died and only the third time I seen them, but it still felt like an emotional night. "Generation Freakshow" I feel is their best album since "Comfort in Sound". Last time I seen them play was at the Cardiff Coal Exchange, the same week that album was out.
Although Feeder are one of the bands I listen to and have all their albums plus singles not on albums, my fave band is Biffy Clyro. I've got every single since "27" on all formats and all their albums on CD and "Only Revolutions" on limited edition box set, which costed a bomb, but was worth every penny!.

Not sure thats true they played Brixton Academy the last time they toured over here, their biggest seller is the 2nd album which went silver, whilst the 3rd album is the only one to have gone top 40. Red Flag is their biggest single which was on the 2nd album. So I would say they got a fair bit bigger after after Try Honesty. As for hotels upping their prices you can hardly blame them as they know the demand is going to be there so they are going to make as much money as possible.
