For me obviously the "stupid" ones by Baz Luhrmann, Spacedust, Teletubbies, the somewhat attempt to be serious but extremely bland ones by Robson & Jerome (except for Up On The Roof which was an ok cover) and Celine Dion's wailing dirges (which is a shame because Falling Into You was quite a good album with quite a few decent songs on it), plus the fact Westlife and Boyzone both got several #1s in during this time (although A Different Beat and No Matter What were both somewhat decent, as was Flying Without Wings).
It's difficult for me to judge whether you consider an obviously silly novelty one worse or one that is making some attempt to being serious.

'The Fly was a grower and in its natural home as part of 'Achtung baby' it sounded great but it possibly wasn't the best first single.

I didn't think much of the Wamdue Project. It was far from the worst #1 of 1999 though.

oh no no no no, do you just hate dance music??? . Armand Van Helden - You Don't Know Me is not only one of the best dance anthems ever it is one of the best number ones of the 90s, i'm tempted to make my list now in defence. I can understand not likeing ATB although I liked it as well, guess I really like 90s dance music and you dont, more of a pure pop fan arent you?

This is looking like another completely bizarre list. Have you included U2 and Armand van Helden just to get a reaction ? They're both great songs.

1. I hate dance music. 2. Thorney, you are right. I'm a pure pop fan and most my favourite # 1 singles were included in your worst list (Westlife, Geri Halliwell, Celine Dion, Boyzone, e.t.c) Ah well. Different strokes and all that. As far as I am concerned if the top dozen places were not reserved for a certain Irish boy band then the list has no credibility. Each to his/her own.

As Billy Bragg was said 'I'm sure we will find some common ground' somewhere, ifyou hate dance music then I hope that means you really hate bad dance music such as Gym & tonic and Feel It.

Here are my 20 worst no.1's of the 90's. I've selected a top 5 and the rest are in no particular order.
1 - Blur – Beetlebum (utter garbage) 2 - Wet Wet Wet – Goodnight Girl (dull dull dull) 3 - Chaka Demus & Pliers- Twist & shout (dreadful) 4 - Hale & Pace – The Stonk (awful, even if it was for comic relief) 5 - Wet Wet Wet – Love is all around (aaaaaargh!)
Bombalurina – Itsy Bitsy Teeny weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini Iron Maiden – Bring your daughter to the slaughter Chesney Hawkes – The one and only U2 – The Fly Jimmy Nail – Ain’t no doubt Shaggy – Oh Carolina Mr Blobby – Mr Blobby Man Utd – Come on you reds Mark Morrison – Return of the Mack Peter Andre – I feel you Teletubbies – Say eh-oh Billie – Because we want to Mr Oizo – Flat Beat Geri Halliwell – Mi Chico Latino Cliff Richard – Millennium Prayer
I don't particularly hate Wet Wet Wet, but their two songs that reached the top in the 90's particularly grate on me. Goodnight Girl from 1992 was the first No.1 that I did not buy since 1984!
And here are my 10 favourite no.1's of the 90's - in no particular order
Sinead O’Connor – Nothing Compares 2 U Adamski – Killer Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody Enigma – Sadeness Snap – Rhythm is a dancer Celine Dion – Think Twice Coolio – Gangsta’s Paradise R Kelly – I believe I can fly Various Artists – Perfect Day Fatboy Slim – Praise You

As far as I am concerned if the top dozen places were not reserved for a certain Irish boy band then the list has no credibility. Each to his/her own. Westlife is the best male group in all music history and Boyzone is near with this status. I'm sure that many Westlife / Boyzone songs would be in my favourite UK # 1 singles ranking for 90s, 00s and even all-time. Remind me never to borrow your record collection.......!

My bottom 20 would look like this. Well done to the same artists (or "artists") for taking both the no 1 and 2 spots. I can only conclude that a wave of intensely bad taste and depravity swept over the UK (but mostly nowhere else) the spring/summer that they were on top of the charts. They certainly make the dubious charms of Westlife (whose 1990s singles were much better than a lot of what came later...) seem more appealing
1. Outhere Brothers - Boom Boom Boom 2. Outhere Brothers - Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle) 3. Hale & Pace - The Stonk 4. Peter Andre - I Feel You 5. Teletubbies - Teletubbies Say `Eh-oh!' 6. Mr Blobby - Mr Blobby 7. Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) 8. DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince - Boom! Shake The Room 9. Hangin' Tough - New Kids On The Block 10. Whigfield - Saturday Night 11. Bombalurina - Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini 12. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman 13. Peter Andre - Flava 14. Melanie B ft Missy Elliot - I Want You Back 15. 911 - A Little Bit More 16. Gina G - Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit 17. Offspring - Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) 18. Westlife - Flying Without Wings 19. B*Witched - C'est La Vie 20. All Saints - Bootie Call

Turtle Power, Do The Bartman, Man Utd, Cotton Eye Joe, Mr Oizo, and Robson & Jerome (3 times) would also be competing for space in the 20.
