Surprised there is no thread discussing the winter tour of India or Alastair Cook's record breaking batting achievements! We're in a great position to go 2-1 up in the test series, just need Prior and Swann to hang around a bit longer tomorrow morning and build up a 200+ lead.

I keep meaning to start a Cricket thread but never got round to it.
What a marvellous run for Alistair Cook. Shame he got out the way he did this morning. We really are in a commanding position in this test though.

It occurred to me last week that it had been a while since we had a cricket thread, and before seeing this thread it dawned on me this morning that misterhamster's session-by-session scores were sorely missed in their absence.
Woke up very early (before going back to sleep) so switched on 5 Live to hear it was India's session this morning. Next thing i know a couple of hours later and England had completely turned it around, 140-odd for 6, couldn't believe it! At the end of day four India 239-9 a lead of 32 runs so England will go 2-1 up in the series tomorrow. Fantastic performance in this 3rd Test by England. It may just be selective memory but in the memorable series wins in recent years stretching back to the 2005 Ashes England always seem to lose the opening test.

So we close Day 1 of the final test on 199-5.
To be honest I have mixed feelings about the score. I feel it could have been a lot worse, and Root (on his debut) and Prior did a good job of pulling us back from what could have been a shocking day!! If we could just reach 300 I think the initiative would be back with England.

India's tactic seems to be to bore England's batsmen out and it's worked to a certain degree. India's bowlers don't pose much of a threat so they're just shutting things down and hoping England make mistakes, which is what's happened. But I agree that if we can make 300+ we're in the game.

Very much in the balance going into day 4, but I do thing England have a slight psychological advantage.

England 165 ahead one day left 7 wickets left one more good session I think get a lead of 250 plus and I think there there.

The key is don't be pressured into declaring. They should bat for a long long time and then maybe have 20 overs at them at the end.

Declare dont bother bat until as late as possible dont even put them in if they have to assuming they don't get bowled out

Very impressive finish to the series from England. They could've been under pressure if they'd lost a few early wickets today but they closed things out with relative ease.
After a disappointing summer, England have re-established themselves as one of the best in the world. A couple of series against New Zealand coming up before back-to-back Ashes series in the next year.

They're a decent one day and T20 outfit but a very average test team. They fluked number one in the world for a while but now their ageing batting line up has now retired or not performing, their spinners are poor and without Zaheer their pace attack struggles too.
