not my list but thought it was interesting. 1 Lady Gaga - Born this Way 2 Terence Trent D'Arby - Neither Fish Nor Flesh 3 Metallica & Lou Reed - Lulu 4 Lou Reed - Metal machine music 5 Passenger - Original Soundtrack 6 Mansun . Six 7 KISS - Music from The Elder 8 Transvision Vamp - Little Magnets vs the Bubble of Babble 9 Smashing Pumpkins - Machina/The Machines of God 10 Pete Townshead - Psychoderelict No clue about the old ones but I have to agree on Gaga, TTD'Arby, T. Vamp and Smashing Pumpkins. Any other you'd add?

I'm surprised there's no pompous nonsense from Rick Wakeman.

"Neither Fish Nor Flesh (A Soundtrack of Love, Faith, Hope & Destruction)", to give it its full name, is certainly, well, even, hyper-pretentious: but that isn't necessarily entirely a bad thing. Mike Oldfield surely warrants a place on the list, too....

I don't think Born This Way is more pretentious than the likes of Lulu etc.

I don't think Born This Way is more pretentious than the likes of Lulu etc. The fact that the videos for the singles off the album were horrendously pretentious probably swayed it for Born This Way

I love Kuala shaker but peasants pigs and astronauts is one of the all time pretentious albums in good way if your a fan. Sound of drums was released on hitlers birthday and had a hammond organ solo, mystical machine gun was just a mental song about wizards in blizards of mystical machine guns and SOS has the lyrics "sometimes i feel like the world isn't ready for me" and the whole album is an end of the world millennium concept album. Nme despised them and the album had layers of eastern musical instruments running through it as they were big on Indian themes. And they were even more prompts than mansun. I always thought 6 was mansun most underated album

always thought coldplay's X&Y was an incredibly pretentious album, but then again, 'every teardrop...' is without a doubt their most pretentious song...

nme can't nock coldplay. They are the only UK rock band that sell records. Listing them as pretentious would be detrimental to the nme hence why they are not in the list

ah, that would explain it i haven't heard their newest album, but i would say pretty much everything since X&Y has been outrageously pretentious. they just about got away with it on the 'viva la vida' album, though.
