The short list for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards 2013 is announced tomorrow. Who will have the chance to compete to finish as runner-up to Andy Murray?

Andy's lapse at the USO will be put down to his bad back so it certainly looks like he will stroll this.
In that final game of his match with Djokovich he probably faced more pressure than any other British sportsperson ever.
More interesting, of course the second Ashes test (and more) have still to come but if England continue to get a hiding can they award then the Team of the Year?

The cricketers have certainly damaged their chances of the team award.
The two obvious choices for Lifetime Achievement - Alex Ferguson and David Beckham - have won it already so they'll have to look elsewhere.

My shortlist of 10 would be (in no particular order): Andy Murray (First British Wimbledon winner since 1977, first male since 1936) Mo Farah (5000/10000 double at World Championships - 5th global title in 3 years) Chris Froome (Won Tour de France) Christine Ohuruogu (Won 400m at World Championships, first global title since 2008) Justin Rose (Won US Open golf) Ian Bell (England's stand-out player in summer Ashes victory) AP McCoy (First jump jockey to ride 4000 winners) Non Stanford (World triathlon champion) Ben Ainslie (Masterminded Oracle's comeback to win the America's Cup) Nick Matthew (Won his 3rd squash world title)
Honourable mentions: Ronnie O'Sullivan (won 5th world snooker title, having not played a proper ranking tournament all season) Phil Taylor (world darts champion yet again) Tai Woffinden (first Briton to be world speedway champion since 2000)
Team of the year: With the Ashes defeat, it very much swings the balance in favour of the Lions, who I think would've won it anyway.
Overseas award: Vettel would be my choice but I think BBC will give it Bolt (again) or Nadal.
Coach of the year: not sure... Gatland? Flower? Lendl? Fergie?

Can't see Nadal getting Overseas Award since he failed at both Wimbledon and Year End Champs.
I take an interest in sport generally and Triathlon has become well known now but I've missed this one - never heard of Non Stanford before.

The Brownlees have understandably had most of the attention when it comes to triathlon, especially as they were both battling for the world title this year (both just missing out). Non Stanford won the women's world title the day before the Brownlees just missed out on the men's title in Hyde Park.

I have to admit I had to Google Non Stanford to find out who she was. I even needed that to confirm that Non was a she. The name didn't offer much of a clue. You could almost say it was non-descript.

I think Panda's list covers everyone I would expect to see on the shortlist, especially as he mentioned all 10 of the 2013 sporting victories that I identified when compiling the longlist for the Haven Top 10 Sporting Victories.

wouldn't it be brilliantly ironic if a guy with less personality than a wet sponge wins sports personality of the year

My shortlist of 10 would be (in order of likelihood):
Andy Murray (Tennis) Mo Farah (Athletics) Chris Froome (Cycling - Road) Leigh Halfpenny (Rugby Union) AP McCoy (Horse Racing - Jumps) Sir Ben Ainslie (Sailing) Christine Ohuruogu (Athletics) Non Stanford (Triathlon) Justin Rose (Golf) Laura Trott (Cycling - Road & Indoor)
Ian Bell (Cricket) & Tai Woffinden (Speedway) just miss out. Hopefully they'll omit the personality vacuum Gareth Bale from the shortlist for fear that Football supporters and 1D type fangirls vote him to an ill deserved minimum Top 3 finish. Whilst Phil Taylor & Ronnie O'Sullivan will be omitted to appease the Snooker & Darts are Past-times not Sport types. (Despite the fact I regard Phil Taylor's continued domination in a Sport played by so many people, over a 25 year period to see so many pretenders to his throne off over that period, to rank him as Britain's Greatest Sportsman)

Surprised they didn't go with Non Stanford - amazing performance. Andy all the way though - well deserved!

So glad Hannah Cockroft is on the list - two golds at the world championships this year, plus a fabulous personality to go with it. Rather than Andy Murray, who performed incredibly well in his sport, but is generally a bit of a twunt.

I hope Murray's people persuade him to attend SPOTY this year. He may never get a better chance to win it. But I do have this nagging feeling that with his back he may decide not to. It was still causing him grief before he left for Miami earlier in the month.

It's been announced this year's Helen Rollason Award will be awarded posthumously to Hillsborough justice campaigner Anne Williams, who died earlier this year.

So if Murray isn't there and wins it, do we do a video conference? Bit dull, then again it is Murray anyway.
