www.nme.com/news/one-direction/80926One Direction seems to be confirmed What are your views on this, I know it will stop the X Factor Winners track from #1, but I've already had enough of listening to the same track wherever I go especially when I go shopping. Will people be dumb enough to even download the original instead of the new version.

I read this in the paper this morning and didnt realise it was 30 years since the original..oh how time flies.
Fine that its new artists, but still the same song and sung in the same way, leads it to be a bit boring.
They may surprise us and add a twist to it , but I very much doubt it.
As i said in the Peace collective thread, can we not get a new song for a change....take a chance.

Was sorta expecting this. Thats christmas number one sorted then with X Fctor winner at 2.
Perhaps we should be taking bets on what will be 3.
Any idea what the anti x factor song will be this year. Rage & Nirvana did well.
Curious to see whether any novelty hits could happen again like previous years with Trashmen, and back in the 90s like Kinky Boots.

There was something wholly contrived about Band Aid 20. Dominic Mohan, then editor of the Bizarre column in The Sun, started a campaign in September 2004 for a new version of Do They Know It's Christmas? to be recorded to mark the 20th anniversary of the Band Aid original. In response, Bob Geldof obliged by finding a reason to record a new version and the whole thing snowballed from there.
If a new version is going to be recorded then at least let it be for something more worthwhile than just a contrived reason for flavour of the day popstars to look all earnest.

The thing is... Do The Know Its Christmas... is so old will people be bothered to literally buy it. The track does not need to be re-freshed, they could at least draw out a new track to mark the 30th anniversary that would get me to buy it. I would love to have a Xmas track at #1, but a re-hashed version doesn't tick any boxes for me.

It has to challenge Unchained Melody and be number one a 4th time.
In 1984 there was a documentary video about starving children in Africa that moved people to want to do something about it. It was breakthrough.
Now it's all pointless.

OK (takes deep breath of depressed inevitability of it all) all I can think of is:
and even better (please can someone do a Facebook campaign to get this to #1 as it lampoons both Band Aid type Charity singles and the annual X-Factor winner release):

Band Aid 2 was my favourite one, I don't mind them doing another one but I object to the money being sent to homophobic Africa, I sure as hell won't be buying it.

Why oh why have they allowed Bono near this project for a third time. Hell, his band's companies alone could raise more money from the tax they avoided paying than this record will raise. Where's Ivan Dobsky when you need him: Considering the cause maybe they should instead rework the OMD classic "Ebola Gay"! As for more alternatives: and
