Shocking, and very sad, to read that Australian Test cricketer Phil Hughes died yesterday aged 25 of brain injuries, having been hit on the head by a ball 3 days ago. Having made his international debut aged 20, he played 26 Tests and 25 ODIs. I was lucky enough to see this gritty player set a new 10th wicket Test record, with Ashton Agar, at Trent Bridge in 2013. He scored 5 international centuries during his career. He also played for Middlesex, Hampshire and Worcestershire. It has been a dreadful year for high profile sportsmen suffering head injuries, with Michael Schumacher (skiing), Jules Bianchi (motor racing) and now Phil Hughes all grievously injured, despite wearing helmets. Hughes' death will have a devastating effect on many cricketers, especially those who were on the pitch when the incident took place. RIP Phil Hughes

Very sad news. Spare a thought too for the poor bowler involved. He must be devastated.

Such a shame for a young person and yes I agree, imagine how the poor bowler feels.

Such a freak accident to be belted on the head.
You gotta feel sorry for the batter who hit the ball.
Or even the bowler who bowled the ball in order for the batter to hit the ball to hit his neck.
This is sounding like The Court of King Carractacus.
Such a loss at such a young age.
RIP

Terrible for someone to die doing something they love, and at such a young age. RIP Phillip.

You gotta feel sorry for the batter who hit the ball. Or even the bowler who bowled the ball in order for the batter to hit the ball to hit his neck. It was Hughes who was batting. He was hit by a bouncer from the bowler.
