USA joins Argentina as expected qualifiers who are in a spot of bother.
China not doing well either. Given that nation's recent enthusiasm for football - pouring a fortune into the domestic league, and buying up foreign clubs with gusto - their non-qualification would be a big blow.

Oceania 3rd round, Group A: New Zealand remain unbeaten in the competition and a victory over Fiji in their next game will see them through to the next round.

Argentina's win puts them right back into contention in what is shaping up to be a tremendous battle for the remaining automatic places behind Brazil. Something that passed me by is that Bolivia were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in the games against Peru and Chile, in which they gained four points. Both games have been awarded as 3-0 wins to their opponents.

An injury time penalty keeps Syria's hopes of a fairytale World Cup appearance alive. Iran have daylight at the top and look certain to qualify but there's a real battle for the other automatic place.

The Dutch find themselves in big trouble again after losing in Bulgaria and are in danger of missing consecutive major tournaments for the first time since 1986.
