Well that turned out as well as could be expected... Great chance for England to reach the quarters.

Somewhere at the FA, someone is frantically trying to arrange friendlies against Algeria and Honduras...

My son was quite impressed.bno real group of death either that I could see? Agreed. The nearest to a group of death is Germany's group (F).

Spain, Portugal and Morocco is a nice cosy little local group.
That's about as good a draw as England could have hoped for. Russia v Saudi Arabia isn't exactly an appetising opening fixture.

It has to be said Group A is about as legitimate as the average Russian Sportsman not taking illegal substances.
Russian hosts so seeded 1st, then pick out Lowest ranked 2nd seed (Uruguay, 21st) Second lowest ranked 3rd seed (Egypt, 31st) Lowest ranked 4th seed (Saudi Arabia, 63rd)
The only more favourable draw (based on rankings) would have been to pick Iran from the 3rd seeds (32nd)

They couldn't have had Iran and Saudi Arabia in the same group.

They couldn't have had Iran and Saudi Arabia in the same group. Of course. In which case they have got the easiest possible draw. What do you know Putin's Russia + FIFA = Corruption.

Nice draw for England, I remember England playing Tunisia in Argentina 78 I think as they were in the same group, mind you I'm taking a wild guess.

England World Cup predicta:-
18th June: England 0-0 Tunisia England grind out a tedious draw in their opening game. Harry Kane hobbles off injured in the 52nd minute.
24th June: England 1-0 Panama An 87th minute winner as the ball bounces into the goal off John Stones' shoulder when he misjudges his header at a corner. Replays show it was probably handball.
28th June: England 0-3 Belgium England thoroughly outclassed. With Belgium winning 1-0, news comes through that Tunisia are winning comfortably against Panama, having lost 2-1 to Belgium. England throw men forward in a desperate attempt to get an equaliser, and get caught twice by counter-attacking Premier League stars.
30th June: No-one at Luton Airport to welcome home our heroes.
1st July: Gareth Southgate becomes the FA's latest fall guy.

I can see the Tunisia game either finishing 0-0 or England being two or three up within half-an-hour.
