Yep, it's being played on a hard court albeit really slow. So you could argue it's almost like a clay court.

Yeah, like others have said it's on hard, not sure what made rub think it was on clay! Not been able to see any of it but apparently, as Pablo says, they were slow. Interesting to read last week that the windy conditions on Centre Court were in part due to the design of the stadium, which after seeing a picture of it before the Olympics started didnt surprise me at all! The unfinished nature of it certainly made it different!
Wasn't an easy match for Jamie and JoKo against IIRC Sock and Mattek Sands but I hoped they'd win. Was a week to forget for Jamie, though I think the Americans ended up winning a medal?

Sock and Mattek-Sands won gold, beating Venus Williams and Ram in the final.

Thanks Mrh, puts Jamie and Joko's result into perspective.
Forgot to add, surprised that rub hasn't heard of Svitolina, top 20 player who I think Heather played a couple of times last year.
Also meant to add that if I'd have known what the court and weather conditions were going to be like I would never have fancied Konta as an outside bet for a medal. But I agree with rub, had she been in the other half of the draw she would have had a chance. Shame there are no ranking points, she deserved some reward for what she achieved.

On the mixed doubles pairings, they couldn't have gone for Watson initially as her ranking wasn't high enough.

Johanna Konta seeded #13 for USO - pity she couldn't have got those few extra points to be #12. Meas she will be drawn against a top 4 player in the last 16.
This should give a good indication of her potential. I was mistakenly under the impression that the Olympics were on Clay but it was described as fast Hardcourt. She was probably always going to lose to Kerber but the scoreline was worrying.
Personally I would have liked to see AndyM skip Cincinnati last week, he did well to make the final losing to Cilic 4 and 5 but I really hope he is fresh.
If he's playing well and has Lendl with him he must have a great chance of recaturing the title as Djokovic is (supposedly) suffering from an ankle injury.
I wonder if Del Potro could caused an upset here if he's fit enough to survive 5 set matches?

They failed miserably if they were meant to be as everything I read during the event said they were slow! Kontas got to get to last 16 first, tbh I'd probably take that now. Pleasantly surprised to see that Laura Robson got a wildcard into qualifying, her and Tara Moore play tonight. James Ward lost last night in straight sets, but given that he was playing a seed and a week ago looked like he had almost no chance of sneaking in can't complain at all.

The Olympic tennis courts were really slow Tom. Lack of aces and long rallies and didn't suit JK play style at all.
Had it been a faster court, DelPo I think could have been Olympic champion quite easily but the long rallies took its toll.

I had originally thought they were slow which is why I thought Konta might not do well but then read this on Wiki: "The competition was played on a fast hardcourt surface used in numerous North American tournaments that aims to minimize disruption for players."

Laura Robson ended up qualifying without dropping a set and is on an 8 match winning run. The title she won in Landisville came out of absolutely nowhere (in the week of the Olympic tennis), and there was a suggestion I saw from someone who thought before that tournament that she may end up retiring. Don't know how likely that really was but her form this summer has been pretty much non existent, she was struggling to win any matches. She did have a lucky escape in Landisville (which I think was a 25k) though when playing Tara Moore (in R2) for the second time in the summer after Tara had beaten her for the first time ever in a marathon 2 and half hour match. In the rematch Tara was leading 7-5 3-4 but then collapsed suffering from dehydration, drifting in and out of consciousness and ended up being stretchered off court and into an ambulance. Play was actually suspended across the tournament. Who knows how important that moment may turn out to be in Laura's career. Fascinating R1 match against Naomi Broady now, if I had to pick an all Brit match in the US Open this would be it, neither defending any points and no pressure on either to go further (pretty certain this is Naomi's first time in the US Open main draw). Naomi may relish the occasion but i'd say she'll also be worried about this match, Laura's results in qualifying suggest to me that she's maybe playing well enough to win it, even without knowing what their head-to-head is.
Speaking of Tara, she won her first match in straight sets, and then playing Lottner in the second match had won the first set 6-1 before play was suspended for rain. I thought the rain delay couldn't have happened at a worse time, and sadly that was the case as she lost the next two sets 6-3 6-2. Very very disappointing as I think she could have qualified as well, Lottner won her final match pretty convincingly.
No Sky coverage of the US Open this time, I think as they cut costs after their spending big to keep the football. Don't really understand though as they've continued to show tennis during the summer, albeit i'm not sure it was their team doing it (Arvind Parmar was I think one of the commentators) and there was no presentation when watching the coverage of that Evans match last month which with the rain/wind delay I never ended up seeing in the end. Massive blow as for me Sky's coverage made it the best coverage of any of the foreign slams. Eurosport still have it but it's not the same, last time I watched their coverage of the USO was abroad when it was only the international feed. Only 2 Brit matches today, and one of those (Konta v Mattek-Sands) is last on Grandstand. The other is Kyle Edmund against Richard Gasquet at 4pm BST on Court 5, hoping to see that if Eurosport have it on one of their two channels...

Kyle Edmund beat (13) Gasquet 6-2 6-2 6-3
It was shown on Eurosport 1, annoying that the sound seemed to be ahead of the picture but glad I saw it. He demolished Gasquet and one passing shot to break back for 3-3 in the 3rd set (he won 5 games in a row to take that set) is an early contender for pass of the tournament. I raved about him after the last Davis Cup tie but this topped that. Wow, just wow! And at the risk of sounding boring that forehand is an absolute monster!

Kyle is beginning to string together some good wins - hoping the consistency continues!

Kyle is beginning to string together some good wins - hoping the consistency continues! Yes, it's the consistency which will be the key. Glad to see Johanna Konta win - it was the sort of match against a lower-ranked home based player in which the Brits often come a cropper. Broady vs Robson should be an intersting match - can't decide which would be the better result for British tennis. Was worried about AndyM's first match, then realised I was mixing up Rossol and Stepenek.

Enjoying the Ms. Broady match - don't want to go to bed but need to be up early! She's giving it a go, so fingers-crossed for a victory!

I stayed up to follow on livescores (too late to watch when I also had to get up early knowing I wouldn't be able to see the end) and just about stayed awake to see the outcome of the first set! Shame the rain meant it started so late as I was planning to watch it.
I'll do a proper round-up over the weekend, it's fair to say it's been eventful...Hoping to watch Konta a bit later, first match I will have seen since the opening day.

Come on Andy!!!
A double header of winning both Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year would be quite magnificent. Though of course he has to win the next three matches at the US Open to achieve the double...

Andy is making heavy weather of winning this game. At times he's looking second best but I'm sure (I hope!) he'll eventually win.

5-1 now. If Murray doesn't shape up quickly he's going to lose this match, I can't see him winning the final set the way he's playing at the moment. I noticed earlier he was feeling his calf - I wonder if he's got a problem? He certainly doesn't look very agile.

Even worse, it was 6-1. I must start to wear those glasses at some point!
