Asian Cup quarter-finals: Iran 3-3 Iraq (Iraq win 7-6 on pens) Japan 1-1 United Arab Emirates (UAE win 5-4 on pens)
Semi-finals: South Korea v Iraq (Mon, 09:00) Australia v United Arab Emirates (Tue, 09:00)
Japan's reign as Asian champions comes to an end. Iran v Iraq was 1-1 after 90 minutes before four goals were scored in extra time.
Of the four teams remaining, South Korea have won the title twice, though not since 1960, Iraq's only title came in 2007, while the UAE and Australia have both been runners-up but have never won the competition.

Group C
Ghana 1-0 Algeria South Africa 1-1 Senegal
Ghana claimed a win over Algeria thanks to Asamoah Gyan (who had appeared off-form throughout the game) in the 92nd minute.
Senegal were a bit unlucky not to beat South Africa, especially as they had a goal (possibly wrongly) disallowed due to offside.
Permutations for final group games:
Senegal will go through if they avoid defeat to Algeria, or if South Africa v Ghana is a draw. They could also go through if they lose and South Africa beat Ghana (it would come down to goal difference). Ghana will go through if they win or they draw and Algeria don't win. Algeria will go through if they win or they draw and South Africa win. South Africa need to win and hope either Senegal beat Algeria or Algeria win and goal difference is favourable.

Ghana and Algeria were kicking lumps out of each other in that first half!

Group D
Ivory Coast 1-1 Mali Cameroon 1-1 Guinea
Bit of a pattern developing in this group...
Mali took an early lead but then saw their goalkeeper stretchered off. Ivory Coast (whose manager was in a pretty bad mood!) levelled in the 85th minute.
Cameroon took an early lead against Guinea who managed to level just before half time. Cameroon then missed several easy chances in the second half.
With all 4 teams currently level going into the final round of group games, the remaining games almost become knockout games with lots being drawn if either game is drawn or both matches finish with the same scoreline. If both games are drawn, the teams in the higher-scoring game will both go through.

16 games, 10 draws and less than 2 goals per game. Not exactly setting the world alight so far...

Group B Cape Verde 0-0 Zambia DR Congo 1-1 Tunisia Tunisia took the lead in the first half, a result which would have seen Cape Verde go through had it remained. However, DR Congo levelled in the second half, meaning that they go through on goals scored (with Tunisia v Zambia being the only non-drawn game in the group - and that had an 89th minute winner!). Group C
South Africa 1-2 Ghana
Senegal 0-2 Algeria
A goal in each half allowed Algeria to book their place in the last 8. They will not however top the group as Ghana (who were bottom of the group at half-time) came from behind to beat South Africa (they scored both goals in the last 20 minutes) and finish ahead of Algeria due to head-to-head results. Senegal go out despite being top of the group 24 hours ago.

Group D
Cameroon 0-1 Ivory Coast Guinea 1-1 Mali
Ivory Coast top the group thanks to a win over Cameroon, with the only goal coming in the 36th minute. Guinea took the lead with a penalty early on but Mali equalised at the start of the second half. Guinea and Mali's identical records (3 1-1 draws each) mean that lots will be drawn to decide who goes through. If this is being done by drawing a ball out of a hat, I hope the balls are marked/labelled with something other than the countries' flags...
Last 2 QFs:
Ghana v Guinea/Mali Ivory Coast v Algeria

I know the European Championship has a rule in place whereby if the two tied teams were playing each other in the final group game, a penalty shoot out could be used instead of drawing lots. Seems silly CAF don't have a similar rule in place.

After further investigation, not only does UEFA offer the provision for penalties if the teams meet in the final group game, they also use UEFA rankings and the fair play table as tie breakers before lots are drawn...
