I believe they have become the first country to win the football championship of a confederation other than the one in which the country completely lies (Australia lies in Oceania). The Soviet Union (which was mainly in Asia) won Euro 1960, but some of it lay in Europe.

The Soviet Union (which was mainly in Asia) won Euro 1960, but some of it lay in Europe. It would appear so. Brazil and Colombia both reached the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup when South American guest teams used to be invited but neither managed to win. Mexico have managed to reach two Copa America finals but have never won, while Honduras and the USA have both reached the semi-finals. Mexico are taking part once again this year, along with Jamaica. Next year there will be a special Copa America, to be held in the US, celebrating the tournament's 100th anniversary. It will feature the 10 CONMEBOL members plus 6 CONCACAF teams (USA, Mexico, Central American champions Costa Rica, Caribbean champions Jamaica, plus the top 2 teams from this year's CONCACAF Gold Cup not already qualified).

An easy win for Ghana against Guinea (who had a player sent off for two bookings towards the end), and a somewhat less comfortable win for Ivory Coast, who scored their 3rd goal in stoppage time.

The ivory coast gk was a disgrace. What a tit, no way you can go down injured twice with two difderent injuries in a penalty shoot out. Conveniently when the opposition were due to take one

It was a bad final, penalty shootout livened it up I guess. Not sure how it stayed with 11 on the pitch for each team either, studs in the groin, stamping on a players foot, further yellow cards when on a yellow. As for all the trouble in the semi final, I love how it has been edited out on the eurosport highlights, I didn't see it live and wanted to watch what happened, and it was all just cut out, and no discussion of it, bizarre. Have Tunisia been chucked out then, for calling CAF cheats? It was a dodgy penalty given against them, but you see decisions like that all the time in football, and the ref got a 6 month ban, blimey!
