hi.
is anyone on this forum a fan of the artist tori amos?
i've loved her for a long time now. not only because she can play the piano (which i wouldn't mind learning myself), but she's got a great voice and her songs are so meaningful
discuss tori

I have always loved a bit of Tori. She's a fabulous artist. Way back in the 90's when she released 'Crucify' I used to play the LIVE EP of the single on a loop - it's brilliant

I liked her at first but that Professional Widow dance mix was "selling out" and I haven't taken her seriously since.
Not that I recall anything she did since.
Her biggest peaking single in my chart was "Silent All These Years" as a re-entry in 1992 peaking at #2 on a week when my entire top 4 were songs that had charted previously.

she´s done amazing things post-Professional Widow, aka my least fav song of hers... the album that came after that, From The Choirgirl Hotel, is probably her best, also Scarlet´s Walk a few years later was magnificent!

i do agree that dance remix thing was a little messed up
best album for me has to be little earthquakes though
the first 6 tracks at least are really awsome songs
and i have the deluxe edition that contains an extra cd with my fave tori song on it "upside down", which speaks words to me.
i wish i could turn myself upsidedown sometimes....

She seems to have forgotten about the UK for the latest tour - I saw her in Nottingham last year and I heard her play Cooling. Was in the second row as I got an upgrade of seats.
Seen her in about 15 concerts. First one Royal Albert Hall 98.

My top 3 albums have to be From the Choirgirl Hotel, Under the Pink and Scarlet's Walk. Worst has to be The Beekeeper. Didn't mind Abnormally Attracted to Sin (really good tracks there although it gets a lot of stick) and I don't think Unrepentant Geraldines is that great.

proffesional widow is a classic track. Never really took her that serious after that.

the Professional Widow thing is still so weird to me imho the original might be Tori´s worst song ever... the remix makes it even worst... and of course it went to #1 in the UK when later other amazing songs like A Sorta Fairytale for instance didn´t even make the top 40

I quite like the original of Professional Widow. It's a real WTF track which sounds like she is having a breakdown on record. It fits well into the angsty first half of Boys for Pele.
The remix is great too in a different way - it was amazing when she got to no.1 with it. I loved it when TOTP played the video which was a compilation of her other videos. I hadn't seen the likes of Hey Jupiter or God then (was difficult to see videos pre You Tube) and the clips of the burning buildings, her looking sultry in the car and the snakes and rats seemed intriguing.
Tis strange that she never got another top 40 hit after the amazing Spark. It all went wrong for her single wise afterwards - quite often due to record company cock ups. Raspberry Swirl was cancelled at the last second. Glory of the 80s had problems with the CD Singles playing the wrong B sides - plus poor choice of a single anyway. A Sorta Fairytale (which only had 1 CD and no B side) had notorious problems with stocking it - people couldn't find it in any record stores. Finally, Strange Little Girl was planned for release then moved back a few times and then cancelled.

agree, it was all the label´s fault that she didn´t get another hit... cancelling all those singles was idiotic, what´s the point? if it flops, then it flops, but put it out there at least
all the first albums til SW are perfect, then she started doing all those 25 track-albums with 5 good songs and 20 fillers, and she lost it imho... also those albums before Geraldine, the Xmas one, the one with classic music riffs, waste of time... Geraldine was not bad but lacked whoomph
