Broadcasting tonight on ITV at 2100hrs.
Touted as "as chosen by the public" but as usual they had to choose from a prescribed list.

Never expected the Police to take the #1 of the 80s, but its my all time favourite #1, so I take that and my favourite band of the 80s I grew up listening to their music, and I own every single and album of theirs. The Six Pack Blue Vinyl collection which I own must be worth something by now, as it was a limited edition. Funny enough Tainted Love and Don't You Want Me, are in my all time top 3 #1s of all time and both were featured in the top 10, shame West End Girls missed on a top 10 finish though, China In Your Hands completes my top 5 #1s of the 80s..

1 Every Breath You Take – The Police (1983) 2 Billie Jean – Michael Jackson (1983) 3 Total Eclipse Of The Heart – Bonnie Tyler (1983) 4 Tainted Love – Soft Cell (1981) 5 I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) – Whitney Houston (1987) 6 Come On Eileen – Dexys Midnight Runners (1982) 7 Don’t You Want Me – Human League (1981) 8 House Of Fun – Madness (1982) 9 Karma Chameleon – Culture Club (1983) 10 True – Spandau Ballet (1983) 11 China In Your Hand – T’Pau (1987) 12 West End Girls – Pet Shop Boys (1986) 13 Wake Me Up Before You Go Go – Wham! (1984) 14 Two Tribes – Frankie Goes To Hollywood (1984) 15 Stand and Deliver – Adam And The Ants (1981) 16 Don’t Leave Me This Way – The Communards (1986) 17 You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) – Dead Or Alive (1985) 18 Back To Life – Soul II Soul (1989) 19 Into The Groove – Madonna (1985) 20 Especially For You – Kylie and Jason (1989)
I had Jacko, Bonnie Tyler and Dexy's as my top suspects for #1 but was completely caught out by The Police.
Never saw this coming at all.
Good record though.

I dont agree with the Police as the favourite.
Some good tracks in there, but surprised that Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax or John lennon wasnt in there

Not overly surprised by the number one... it's supposedly very popular at funerals.
A lot of songs I like there. I think my favourite of those would have been Billie Jean.

Interestingly, there is only one from after 1984 in the top 10. The Thriller Hypothesis has another slice of evidence in its favour.

Notice none from 1988 , Belinda Carlisle would be in my top 10 maybe she wasn't on the list, I guess it all about who they get interviews with and clips they pay for.

Then the people who it would have been popular with would have passed then? lol Not my type of funeral song, I want something upbeat.

Very funny I think it gets chosen not because it was the favourite song of the person who died, but because the lyrics can be interpreted as the voice of someone's departed loved one looking out for them ('every step you take, every move you make, I'll be watching you'). Whereas actually it's about a somewhat stalkerish ex-lover but NEVER MIND

I wonder how much Puff Daddys version would have been an influence too as I know a few people who had that version at the funeral too.

My all time favourite was number 4.
What shocks me though is that Relax by FGTH is not even in the top 20.!!
