So excited for this! The guy called Paul looks a bit like Paul Hollywood, I imagine that's partly why he got chosen

My faves so far, have to be Ugne and Flora. I felt sorry for Dorret, but Stu was beginning to do my nut in. Something about him that didn't click with me, so I'm quite happy he was the first to go home the Rhubarb and Chocolate Black Forest gateaux left a horrible taste in my mouth. And I love a good walnut cake, come on Stu one nut on top that nut looked very sad and lonely on top.
None of the men really stood out for me on the first show, apart from Tamal.

At work, we have the game of selecting "our" contestant (before the first show) to support throughout the Series and to see who is the last baker standing.
Last year I went for my namesake Richard, who was star baker 5 times, only to blow it spectacularly in the final.
This year, my selection was ...... Marie .... already I suspect she is going to go a long way in the contest, even if others improve and she finishes short of the final.

Glad Dorret didn't get sent home after that unfortunate mousse incident (I did think we might be on for Bingate 2015 for a moment there!) - I agree with Mart!n, Stu was annoying. Ugne and Nadiya are probably my favourite personalities so far. Ian seems like a nice guy as well. In terms of bakers, Marie and Flora have to be the standouts - though did you see Flora's face when she presented that *amazing* monstrosity of a showstopper and all Paul could say was 'it's really big' she looked like she was expecting to be showered in praise just for how it looked (and I did think it was one of the more visually impressive ones).

Bake-off got an audience of 9.3m last night. That's a bigger audience then every episode last year except for the final.

And Marie has gone, I must admit she was the worst baker this week, it was the right decision.
The Fire Engine showstopper was my favourite biscuit bake, really stood out from the rest. Star baker was pretty much spot on.
One thing I really hate about the show, is the intro bit at the start showing the highlights of the episode I just wish they wouldn't do that, and the advert for next week's challenge, I rather be surprised at their baking.

We have the Irish version over here, "the great Irish bake off"
Wonder how many more different countries have their own version

But from the edit, it looked like the correct decision.

Same, I always turn off when they do the "Next Week" bit but then I do that with all programmes

That's why I watch it on the Tivo box. I can start watching a few minutes late and skip over the trailer for itself. Trailers are bad enough at the best of times. When a programme starts and ends with trailers for itself, they are even more annoying.

I should support Tamal, apparently. Not a bad choice actually, I quite like him. Purely in a baking way of course. I'm not at all saying I want to do the no-pants-dance with him. No, not at all. Well, maybe a little bit.

I saw that coming Dorret's showstopper was awful, it just looked hideous, didn't really stood out from the rest.
Wow at that Lion though, the detail on it was amazing and so precise, well deserved commendation. And the flowerpot was really good. Not to forget Alvin who could have opened up a bakery.
