Ths week's spotlight on The The's "This Is The Day", later covered by Manic Street Preachers. One of half-a-dozen superb singles released by Matt Johnson in the mid-80s.

In 1983 I used to listen to a pirate radio station called LMR and the DJ Christopher England used to play "Perfect" by The The almost every week so I got very familiar with that song.

He also used to close the show every week with a song that went "see you next week same time same channel, it's the end of the show". Can't remember the singer of the latter one.

The other New Wave synth pop duo from Bath who came out of the short lived Bath University quartet Neon, had four USA top 40 hits in the space of two years. This was their second hit peaking at USA #11. Sounding like a good cross between ABC & Kajagoogoo, this Tony Mansfield produced track was written by the duo of Pete Byrne & Rob Fisher (pre Climie Fisher fame).

Disco act Unique blast their way to the top of the chart with 'What I Got Is What You Need', pushing Ryan Paris down to number 2 after two weeks at number one.....Highest of 8 new entries this week is in at number 9 from Culture Club with 'Karma Chameleon' whose last three singles have all gone Top 3 but still awaiting their first number one....Highest of 17 climbers are Righeira with 'Vamos A La Playa', the second Italian disco act in this chart, and D-Train with 'The Shadow of Your Smile' both up 14 places.
