In the next two months I will post my personal decade rankings of UK # 1 singles from my least favourites to the best.
I will start with 70s, after 80s and finally 90s. Based on the people's interest I also can continue with 2000s or even travel on a time machine in 60s.
Please, don't judge me very strict.
Coming soon.

This is uncanny but I was thinking of doing something very similar, counting down my 100 favourite UK #1 singles, from 1952 to present day; with a youtube link and synopsis of each one. I might still do it running parallel with yours, turn it into a Blur/Oasis fight

Both sound good, I hope you will be okay with posters saying what their feelings are on the songs featured?

I don't think I have the intestinal fortitude to listen to the number 1 hits post-about 1996.

From 1998 onward the number of UK/NM #1s per year has been:
1998: 1 1999: 2 2000: 2 2001: 0 2002: 1 2003: 1 2004: 1 2005: 1 2006: 2 2007: 1 2008: 1 2009: 0 2010: 0 2011: 0 (or 1) 2012: 2 (or 1) 2013: 0 2014: 0 2015: 0
And "Somebody That I Used To Know" isn't one of them as it got stuck at #2 in my chart so the 2012 count could have been as high as 3. The 2011/2012 ambiguity is where to place "We Are Young" which was NM #1 in 2011 but UK #1 in 2012.
Compare this to the earlier years where there was only one in 1982 and 1994 and at least 2 in all other years. I'll see how the retro years go but it's been fairly high so far.
1960: 6 (or 7) 1961: 6 (or 5) 1962: 4 (or 5)
The 1960-61 ambiguity is "Poetry In Motion" which topped my chart in 1960 and the UK chart in 1961.
1962 it was Cliff Richard and Elvis Presley who mostly matched my #1s. Elvis had 4 in the UK, 3 of which were #1 in my chart too. Cliff had one in 1962 but and "Bachelor Boy" was #1 in my chart in 1962 and in the UK in 1963.
1963: 6 (or 5)
Cliff's "Bachelor Boy" #1 in my chart in 1962. All 3 Beatles, 2 of the Gerry & the Pacemakers #1s (but I Like It missed out in my chart).
1998 was the year that my chart started charting non-chart music the first time, which explains obviously why the number drifted down, and with the introduction of "download-only" in 2007 it drifted even further apart from the UK chart.

I will look forward to this. I will comment as and when, as I suspect my Retro Rewind project (1960-1983) is going to take me well into 2017 all things being normal, and perhaps significantly longer if I decide to take it beyond the start of my Personal charts which began in 1984. Although very often especially in the early years I only wrote down my number one for the week.
Remember this motto when your music taste is questioned "Opinions are like ass-holes, and frequently they are full of sh*t!"

In the current decade only three my number ones were # 1s in UK.
Possibly 1999 was the most successful year for UK # 1s in all history of my retrospective charts.

In 1999 "Maria" and "She's The One" that topped my chart. Aside from "We Are Young", the only UK/NM #1 in the 2010s so far has been "Candy" by Robbie Williams. Yeah, he's done the feat twice. Also had loads of other #1s in my chart.

"Maria" is the best comeback in all music history. In my chart Robbie had a New Year # 1 with "Something Stupid". "Cannonball" was my last # 1 from UK # 1s. 1999 year was a highlight for my favourite music genre, that's why I shared so much # 1s with UK chart.

I didn't have much love for Maria, but I was in a minority

# 166 is sure to get some, ahem, feedback, from some people on this site.

I Feel Love beaten by 'classics' from Benny Hill and The Wurzels, poor Donna.... "Ernie" was a novelty record and there are far far worse chart-toppers in the 70's.

"Ernie" was a brilliant record. Look at the lyrics...
She nearly swooned at his macaroon and he said, "If you treat me right, You'll have hot rolls every morning and crumpets every night." He knew once she sampled his layer cake he'd have his wicked way, And all Ernie had to offer was a pint of milk a day.
Let's compare to, ooh, I don't know, how about a song from an album that the music media somehow decide was the greatest of the 1990s?
It barks at no one else but me Like it's seen a ghost I guess it seen the sparks a-flowing No one else would know
Hey man slow down, slow down Idiot, slow down, slow down
Sometimes I get overcharged That's when you see sparks You ask me where the hell I'm going At a thousand feet per second
Hey man slow down, slow down Idiot slow down, slow down
Hey man slow down, slow down Idiot slow down, slow down
I mean. f***ing HELL.
But those three songs at 166-8 are all masterpieces...

Paul Anka already got in my retro chart with Puppy Love and Cliff's "The Twelfth Of Never" will possibly also chart. Tab Hunter's "Young Love" was before my retro era. So not the songs but the way he sang them.
