15 February 1981
This week in 1981 was one of the classic chart battles that is remembered to this day, after stalking up from 6 to 3 to 2 Ultravox were poised to take the No.1 spot off John Lennon unfortunately they had not counted on the song which had sprinted from 30 to 3 the week before Mr Joe Dolce.
In what would go down in music folklore Ultravox stalled at No.2 as Mr Dolce whizzed past to take the top spot, in what would be more humiliation, they were stuck at No.2 behind him for the next three weeks and when he finally dropped from the top they fell down as well.
With the excitement at the top of the top 10 the rest of the Top 10 was a bit more mundane with Dire Straits, Stray Cats & Slade making moves into the Top 10.
Outside the Top 10 there were big climbers for The Pretenders with "Message Of Love and Coast to Coast who climbed 25 places to 14 with (Do) The Hucklebuck.
The highest new was at No.15 for Motorhead/Girlschool with "St Valentine's Day Massacre"(EP), Vic Maile, the producers of the bands suggested they work together, Motorhead were criticised and some people say the song saw them go down a novelty route they never really recovered from.
The only other new entry in the chart was Roxy Music, who as already stated would be the band that knocked Joe Dolce off the top in a few weeks time.
