For the past few years it's been this:
The Thermals - 'A Pillar of Salt'
Other contenders include: Alanis Morissette - 'Forgiven' Astrid - 'High In The Morning' Billy Joel - 'My Life' Gin Blossoms - 'Hey Jealousy'

I'd say "I'll stand by you" from The Pretenders.

It changes, but this one is one of my all-time faves:

There's so many songs that come to mind when answering this question, but in the end it always comes back to the same one - Common People by Pulp. It's just perfect. Ever since posting this I've been berating myself for not saying one of these... I Want To Hold Your Hand by The Beatles Like A Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan I Am The Resurrection by The Stone Roses Sheriff Fatman by Carter USM Still DRE by Dr Dre featuring Snoop Dogg Truth is it's just an impossible question to answer

My top 2 is between Fragma's "Toca's Miracle", released in 2000 or All Saint's "Pure Shores", also released in 2000. Both were huge #1's and have always been my favourite songs of all time. Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right" (2007) comes in a close 3rd.

After reading through this thread I had a splurge on iTunes and bought tracks by The Thermals, The Waterboys, Al Stewart & Damien Rice, reasoning that if they were people's favourite ever tracks I should at least know them.
I feel like I ought to say thanks - all four are equal parts fascinating and excellent, I've been listening to them in the car all week

Jimmy Eat World - 23
It could never really be anything else - it's the only song with lyrics inked on my skin (for my 23rd birthday, funnily enough).
