Really?!! Their quality if songs was dropping by 1989 never mind now that's a very tall order to fill
Very few sequel albums match or come close to the first but I guess Meatloaf and UB40 did well but those were different days.

If it's anything like the song they did for the recent Eddie the Eagle film then it will definitely be worth investigating.

I've been listening to it all day - the original is one of my absolutely favourite albums. My initial impressions are very positive. I loved "Beauty Stab" too, while their last album, in 2008 (I think), "Traffic" was a definite return to form. It's clever, and beautiful. I did fear it might be "Radio 2 wallpaper music" - but, no, after a few listens, it seems better than that. More mature - less melodramatic, less obviously exciting than the 1982 original, but still a worthy collection of songs, and one that I think will grow and prove its worth.

It is a very respectable stab at being a sequel to Martin Fry's group's debut album. Anne Dudley's string arrangements are undoubtedly the star of the show.
It might not be quite as good as Duran Duran's unofficial sequel to their seminal 1982 "Rio" album (The Mark Ronson produced 2011 album All You Need Is Now had the original working title of "Rio II" before they ditched the concept but kept that sound upgraded 30 years later) but it is pretty close.
