- The science fiction themed final song on the Piano Man's album Turnstiles in 1976 about an apocalypse occurring in New York. Among the catastrophes that befall the city in the song is the destruction of its iconic skyscrapers. "I saw the Empire State laid low," the singer recalls. "I watched the mighty skyline fall." On September 11, 2001, planes hijacked by terrorists were crashed into the World Trade Center towers, the city's tallest buildings, causing them to collapse with a loss of almost three thousand lives. Shortly afterwards, Joel performed the song at a benefit concert on October 20, 2001. Joel announced at the end of the song, "I wrote that song 25 years ago. I thought it was going to be a science fiction song; I never thought it would really happen. But unlike the end of that song, we ain't going anywhere!"
- This USA #11 & Canada #2 country pop rock cover of the Buddy Holly classic was culled from the album, Hasten Down the Wind.

"That's Me" was released as a single in Japan the following year (with "Money, Money, Money" as the B-side).
From "Arrival" era four songs were # 1s in my chart (Dancing Queen, When I Kissed The Teacher, Knowing Me Knowing You, That's Me). "Money Money Money" was blocked from # 1 by Blondie "In The Flesh".

- The latest single by the London based singer/songwriter/music journalist was this UK #41 pop rock release.
- The lead single from the Glam Hard rockers forthcoming Off The Record album failed to trouble the UK singles charts. However, it was a top 20 hit across Europe with its highest peak being #5 in Sweden.
- The top English theatre actor (Hair; Jesus Christ Superstar; Grease (the first West End Danny, to Elaine Paige's Sandy) and singer, enjoyed a shortlived pin up pop career with this disco pop UK #8 hit being his most successful.

"My Sweet Rosalie" is my # 1 single of 1976 year.
I did many interesting # 1 choices in this year, include low known Glamour Puss - Superman (very rare # 1 for girl group in pre-90s era).

Nine retro rewind newbies this week from:
- The mournful ballad about a romantic relationship which is falling apart from the album Blue Moves which has become regarded as the end of his golden era of success. It went top ten everywhere bar Australia #43. Peaking at UK #11, USA #6, & Canada #3.
- The Australian's Australia #15, USA #14, UK #6, Canada #11, and #3 in South Africa & New Zealand cover of the Bee Gees' Children Of The World album soul ballad.
- Written & produced by Jeff Lynne from the New World Record album (Patti Quatro (sister of Suzi), Brie Brandt, both of Fanny, and Addie Lee sang uncredited vocals) on this huge international hit which topped the charts in South Africa. Its peaks included UK #4, USA #13, Australia #2, Canada #4.
- The Essex pub rockers UK #35 title track hit of their debut album written by Dave Higgs.
- The soft rock duo's effective title track of their 4th album penned by Parker McGee peaked at USA #10 & Canada #10.
- Taken from the Wings At The Speed Of Sound album, this classic McCartney piano ballad love song to his lovely wife (Linda Eastman) was seriously considered as a 3rd single from the hugely successful album, but was blocked by Paul himself. Something which in hindsight the former Beatle admitted was a major error of judgement. Hence why it appears as track 4 on CD 1 of 2016 Pure McCartney compilation compiled by McCartney himself.
- The pop rock band originally formed in Melbourne, Australia international breakthrough came with their harmonic orchestral third single which peaked at Australia #35, USA #28, & Canada #33 penned by band member Graeham Goble. Its intro was deliberately "borrowed" by Nick Cave for the hit single "Where The Wild Roses Grow".
- The stand out & final track on the Black Country Rock group's underwhelming Technical Ecstacy album produced by guitarist Tony Iommi, as substance abuse was clearly impacting on the band's abilities.
- The R&B funk band (whose moniker stands for Love, Togetherness, and Devotion), was formed in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1968 but achieved their USA #20 (R&B #1) breakthrough thanks to the guest vocals of the then unknown session/backing singer who would go on to far greater success in the future.

A new year sees the second Retro Rewind Chart topper for the Motown Genius.
Nine new entries arrive from:
- The Los Angeles based soul and R&B group signed to former to Motown's 'psychedelic shaman" Norman Whitfield, new label after leaving Berry Gordy Jr. company. He wrote & produced their debut effort which peaked at USA #1 (R&B #1), Canada #1, UK #9, Australia #12.
- The Texas based singer/guitarist William Royce "Boz" Scaggs self penned USA #42, UK #10, & Australia #2 pop rock hit from his Silk Degrees album.
- This USA #6 (R&B #2) & UK #42 Philly Soul, Gamble & Huff written & produced track featuring Michael and Jackie Jackson on lead vocals, was the first non-Motown single for the group since they departed from the label earlier in 1976.
- The Hotel California album track was the popular rock B-side of "New Kid In Town", written by Felder, Henley, Frey, Souther; and featuring Don Henley on lead vocals.
- The Liverpool progressive soft pop group's UK #17 hit was their second biggest of their 4 UK chart singles.
- The defacto title track of the Irish rock group's seventh studio album Johnny The Fox, was about two drug dealers. Alas due to its subject matter this Downey, Gorham, Lynott composition was effectively banned as a North American single so received minimal airplay and failed to chart.
- The "Soul Finger" R&B hit makers from Memphis, Tennessee returned with this funk USA #23 (R&B #5) hit.
- The comedy hard rock satirical single taken from the Zoot Allures album, addresses the stereotypes affiliated with the disco era, and later featured on Frank Zappa's best of album Strictly Commercial.
- The Scottish melodic Power Pop outfit flop single from the Morin Heights album, which suggested the game was nearly up for them and session work beckoned.

Seven new entries in this week from:
- This hard rock anthem was written by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and originally released as the second single from the 1975 album Toys in the Attic, before becoming a belated success upon re-release to reach USA #10, Canada #7 & Australia #85 early in 1977.
- Riding high on the acting success of playing in the hit TV show Starsky and Hutch, Soul returned to one of his early career choices as a country singer. His debut, the Tony Macaulay written and produced easy listening track peaked at #1 in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, & Ireland.
- The London born musical theatre actress who went onto to appear in the ITV series Rock Follies, was selected by its writers Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice as the actress to play the title role in their original studio recording of their musical Evita (having first been turned down by Elkie Brooks). The result was a #1 in the UK, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Belgium. However, she turned down the lead role of Eva Peron in the West End Musical which went to Elaine Paige.
- The melodic rock USA #42 & Canada #53 title track of the Canadian group's debut album.
- The opening track of the Birmingham based acoustic rock singer/songwriter debut album Joan Armatrading, featured drums by Kenney Jones of the Faces but failed to chart in the UK, despite the success of the previous single and parent album.
- This cover of the Gallagher & Lyle original, taken from his Let's Stick Together album, was released as a single in North America becoming a minor USA #86 hit.
- The Sydney, Australia melodic rock band's domestic Australia #6 single.
