I prefer "Kisses Of Fire" over "Does Your Mother Know".
Please, "Sunday Girl" at # 1.

You had a run of #1s: Blondie - Heart of Glass, Bee Gees - Tragedy, Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army, Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
I had a very similar run of #1s, the 2nd one was different for me, I had Bat Out Of Hell as the second in that series. That is considered by me my strongest ever run of 4 #1s.

- Taken from the dance R&B group's second album C'est Chic, this much sampled Rodgers/Edwards composition/production is most for being the musical bed of the 2003 UK #1 hit "Be Faithful" by Fatman Scoop. Handily enough that track was co-produced by Nile Rodgers under the pseudonym DJ Riz, as the hip hop artist born Isaac Freeman III is also a handy drummer who frequently today is the drummer of Nile Rodgers & The Chic Organization at Festivals, etc.
- This other worldly art rock ballad was released as a third single from her second album Lionheart in Japan and Canada featured the band Pilot on the backing track.
- The Mark Knopfler penned first song on their debut album, Dire Straits. The first Retro Rewind number one for the New York Poetess of Punk ... Ten more entries this week from:

- The self penned soft rock title track of the Night Owl album, again featured a Lyricon solo played by "Baker Street" saxophonist Raphael Ravenscroft resulting in a UK # & Australia #64 hit. Oddly, it was not a single in North America.
- The USA #4 & UK #18 Chicago born jazz pop vocalist self penned signature tune came from her debut single from her self titled debut album. Its inspiration came from when Jones and her lover/fellow songwriter Tom Waits spent a lot of time hanging out with their friend Chuck E. Weiss at the seedy Tropicana Motel in Los Angeles. Eventually Weiss, affectionately referred to as "Chuck E.", disappeared. Later Weiss called the apartment where Jones and Waits lived. When Waits took the call, Weiss explained that he was in Denver, and that he had moved there because he had fallen in love with a cousin in Colorado. When Waits hung up he announced to Jones, "Chuck E.’s in love."
- The Colorado born soft rock singer/songwriter & guitarist debut chart single was this USA #4 (AC #1), Canada #32, UK #8 & Australia #17.
- Singer/songwriter Peet Coombes formed post punk new wave group debut UK #52 single from their self titled debut album. The group of course contained a couple who went on to achieve far greater things in the future.

The London born Asperger sufferer Gary Webb gains his maiden Retro Rewind chart topper with a stunning groundbreaking track, that I never get tired of hearing (although I suspect a lot of Haveners preferred it when the Sugababes sung a different song over the top of it!)... Nine new entries, with the highest three being new singles released on June 15th 1979!
- The Manchester post punk band's track taken from their Martin Hannett produced debut album Unknown Pleasures featuring Ian Curtis' distinctive vocals.
- Written by Michael Dempsey, Robert Smith, and Lol Tolhurst, it was released as a stand alone third single by the Post Punk Gothic group, but later turned up on the North American version of their debut album Three Imaginary Boys. It actually charted at Australia #99 & New Zealand #22. A remade version would be a far bigger success in 1986.
- The self penned debut single on Stiff Records by the late great daughter of folk singer Ewan MacColl and dancer Jean Newlove, peaked at number two on the Music Week airplay chart. However, a distributors' strike prevented copies of the single getting into record stores, and the single consequently failed to appear on the UK Singles Chart. A 1983 cover version by Tracey Ullman did rather better.
- The London rock band fronted by sinnger/songwriter Paul Roberts suffered the same problem as Kirsty MacColl, as despite this New Wave Power Pop classic peaking at number three on the Music Week airplay chart, the single stalled at UK #42. In contrast as well as this being a top 20 hit across Europe (including #1 in the Netherlands) it reached USA #15, Canada #17 & Australia #13.
- The punkish hard rock UK #35 lead single from the Chris Thomas co-produced debut album Back To The Egg.
- The UK #58 Post Punk single taken from the forthcoming Leeds group Entertainment! album.
- The London born Reggae singer's Lovers rock signature UK #2 tune was written and produced by Dennis Bovell.
- The London new wave band formed by keyboard player Peter Banks second album Laser Love, contained their debut chart success, the progressive pop UK #40 hit written by Andy Piercy & Peter Banks.
- The San Francisco punk band's controversial debut single written by Jello Biafra & John Greenway were a satirical attack on Jerry Brown, the Governor of California from 1975–1983.

- Originally composed as a demo in 1974, in a 1989 extensive 25* 30 minutes Radio 1 interview series with Paul Gambaccini, the former Beatle admitted the New Wave band Squeeze very much influenced the sound of the Back To The Egg album New Wave rocker which peaked at UK #60, USA #20, Canada #18 & Australia #57.
- The self produced Secrets album hard rock cover of the 1978 song, written and originally recorded by Moon Martin, stalled at UK #61, but did far better internationally making USA #14, Australia #13 & Canada #1.

- The London based reggae influenced punk band most famous song is this UK #7 hit released by Virgin Records.

- The American born, Sydney, Australia based R&B singer/actress reached Australia #9 & New Zealand #5 with this soul ballad composed by Paul Jabara and Jay Asher (& first recorded in 1978 and not released initially by Donna Summer).

One of the greatest pop songs ever written by a UK female singer songwriter tops my Retro Rewind chart. Incredibly, it would take her 23 months to release a follow up single. Nine new entries come from:

- The Roger Hodgson penned UK #9, USA #62 title track of the English progressive rock group's signature album.
- The British soft rock group's second single, and first hit reached UK #13. It was composed by Andy Davis, and the group's synth player was the future Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder.
- The UK #6, Australia #54 & USA #39 symphonic rock song written by vocalist and guitarist Alan Jardine and Ron Altbach was released on the American pop rock group's 1979 album L.A. (Light Album). The music is derived from Johann Sebastian Bach's composition Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, with the opening harpsichord part being played by Sterling Smith.
- The emotional powerful post punk UK #20 hit with lyrics by John Lydon on seeing his mother die of cancer.
- The resonant UK #33 new wave ballad written by Chrissie Hynde that was released on the Pretenders 1980 debut album Pretenders, produced by Chris Thomas.
- The Washington DC born disco soul singer (& aunt to Sinitta), disco cover of the Doors standard in a medley with an original number reached UK #5 after stalling at USA #69.
- The UK #3 Sid Vicious helmed scrapping of the barrel cover of the Edie Cochran standard.
- The Rik Ocasek penned title track of the USA New Wave group's 1979 album Candy-O, featured bassist Benjamin Orr on lead vocals.

The second retro rewind chart topper for Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards group with their cocktail of sophisticated R&B, jazz & disco. 10 more entries from:
- Co-written with Brian Eno & Carlos Alomar, this Lodger album UK #29 single was a cynical comment on the cult of the DJ (Bowie's biting lyric stemmed from late 1977 after Radio 1 did not playlist "Heroes" implying he was no longer relevant to the current music scene...). Musically, it was inspired as a bit of a homage to David Byrne's Talking Heads.
- The UK #10 Giorgio Moroder produced electronic disco track named after the game show Beat the Clock.
- The UK #8 & Australia #48 Beatlesque song (according to Jeff Lynne) "about a lucky lad who somehow defies the odds and gets the girl. Really wild use of the vocoder" from the Discovery album.
- Written in 1978 by the Northern Irish band's principal songwriter, John O'Neill. It was included, initially as an album track, on their eponymous debut LP, before being rerecorded as a faster 99 seconds recording to become a UK #34 hit.
- The title track of her 1979 album was this disco track written and produced by Ashford & Simpson. It peaked at USA #19, Canada #48 & UK #40.
- The raunchy & humourous bluesy heavy rock title track of the London rock band's 1979 album, which became a live staple for the remainder of their touring career.
- Stuart Goddard's post punk tribute to the photocopier, and more to the point a slight dig in referencing David Bowie's description of himself as "a human Xerox Machine" (Ant was always more of a Marc Bolan fan than his rival), was released as the debut single, from his band's debut album Dirk Wears White Sox. This track include future Bow Wow Wow members Dave Barbarossa on drums & Matthew Ashman on guitar; & future Monochrome Set member Andy Warren on bass guitar. The song was a number one hit on the UK Indie Chart, but failed to chart on the UK Singles Chart upon its initial release (Upon Antmania it reached UK #45 early in 1981).
- The French singer's huge self penned international disco hit which topped the charts in Australia; Austria; Canada; Denmark; France; Germany; Italy; Mexico; New Zealand; Norway; Portugal; Sweden; and USA #16 & UK #10.
- The former The Kingston Trio folk singer, writer of The Monkees "Daydream Believer" teamed up with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham resulting in his own USA #5 & Canada #4 rock pop hit.
- Charles Burchill and Jim Kerr's tribute to Nico, was the Scottish post punk group's second single from their John Leckie produced debut album Life In A Day.

- The Devo inspired stand out book ending Rust Never Sleeps album track (in acoustic (Out Of The Blue); and distorted loud rock (Into The Black) versions) about the rise of punk and what Young viewed as his own growing irrelevance, became infamous after Kurt Cobain quoted some of its lyrics in his suicide note. Not everyone was a fan of the song or its sentiment: John Lennon in a December 6th 1980 interview "I hate it. It's better to fade away like an old soldier than to burn out. If he was talking about burning out like Sid Vicious, forget it. I don't appreciate the worship of dead Sid Vicious or of dead James Dean or dead John Wayne. It's the same thing. Making Sid Vicious a hero, Jim Morrison—it's garbage to me. I worship the people who survive—Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo."
- The driving drum beat blues pop rocker and final track on the Discovery album, became Jeff Lynne's symphonic rock group's biggest hit in North America: USA #4 & Canada #1, as well as hitting UK #3 & Australia #6, and going top ten across Europe.

- Marc E Smith & (future Northern Radio DJ) Marc Riley's penned single from Dragnet the second studio album by the Lancashire art punk band
- The California Power Pop band single from their second album Back to the Drawing Board! is most famous for Avril Lavigne's 2007 global smash hit co-written with Dr Luke "Girlfriend" being found guilty of plagiarising it.

- Originally, this uptempo song with melancholic lyrics was planned as the lead single for the album, Voulez-Vous. It was written after a night out with Robert Plant in Stockholm, as a reflection of Björn Ulvaeus's state of mind during his divorce, an uptempo song with despairing lyrics where the narrator dreads the end of the working day, when they will be all alone to deal with their own thoughts.
