I made a start listening to the songs from 200, though I haven't got all the way to 161 yet (and now there's 20 more ) I found I enjoyed the first few, then there was a patch of meh songs, then there were a few I really disliked, then I started to enjoy them again. There's quite a lot of the sort of self-conscious box-ticking style-over-substance indie that dissuades me from listening to much new alternative music, but there are also some bands I'd never heard of that I'll definitely look out for in the future. My highlight so far, apart from Unlikely Candidates who had the advantage of me having been playing the song for 2 years, is Sans Parents - 'Can't Stop Moving'. This song reminds me of both classic late 70s/early 80s power pop and one of my all-time favourite bands, The New Pornographers. Vant, The Carnabys and San Blas are also names I'll look out for in the coming year...

Loner by Denim Snakes was a #1 in my chart and is therefore a lot higher in my chart of the year.
I think yours has more overlap with mine than any of the others on here.

Glad there's some people like. It is quite a mixed bag. My main genre is indie rock so I guess a few are a bit samey.

"Indie rock" is a very general term though. My taste is somewhere between indie and old-style pop, and probably still live a little in my own era with regards to musical style. Thus my two big hits I submitted to Andy's topic could have easily been hits from late 1979 performed by Queen and The Selecter.
The big hit by Skellums in my chart, that nobody in non-hit single of the month appeared to like, is just such catchy anthemic pop-rock. But yeah, maybe too "britpop" and therefore dated for people who live in 2016 and not in the past.

I playlisted and maybe even charted "Art of dying Young" by Skellums. There are just so many good poppy songs by relatively unknown bands it's hard to narrow playlists and charts down to a workable number so plenty of good stuff misses out

I'm the same, I like loads of stuff that doesn't make my chart or i don't give points to in polls, you just have to have an order of preference and some songs miss out even if you like them. I have a very high tolerance to music quality and something has to be truly terrible for me to not like it. Like most chart stuff its just meh or wallpaper its not terrible or bad.

I am still listening to this, making a bit slower progress than I hoped because of having been unwell with the sh*tty respiratory bug that has seemingly affected half the country. I'm still only up to 149... Standout from the latest section is The Mowglis - Spiderweb. Overall I've been underwhelmed though.
There just seems to me a lack of enthusiasm among the performers, as though they're trying too hard to impress critics and not really enjoying what they're doing. Longfellow was a particular lowlight, but many of the others just seem to me to be going through the motions.

Dive In – TempleThese lads from Glastonbury have had so many hits in my chart over the last few years "Eighteen", "Can't Hold Me Down", "Change The Weather", "Don't Break Yourself Apart", "Let Go", "Rush of The Night" and now the excellent "Temple", they sound more like the 1975 than the 1975, maybe a little unlucky not to be a bit higher considering what kept it off number 1 but there's some top songs to come www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4xW6hzhpRMPeak Position: 3

95. Milburn – Midnight ControlFormed in 2001 this Sheffield band released some cracking Demos and E.Ps in the early 00's that very much inspired the Arctic Monkeys sound, after years of hype they had still yet to release an album but sold out tours and used that as an opportunity to take fellow Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys on tour to support them in 2005, a year later Arctic Monkeys had a No. 1 on the UK Single and a multi million pound record deal and Milburn had still yet to find anyone to release their music, they eventually signed with Mercury Records in 2006 and re-recorded their songs but they lost a lot of what made them special in the process and their album never did a great deal, by the time a second album was released people had lost interest, but its good to have them back touring and releasing new stuff www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Ts7G6L9mcPeak Position: 5
Kept off #1 by:
1. (1.) Twin Wild - My Heart 2. (4.) Grouplove - Traumatized 3. (7.) Bastille - Send Them Off! 4. (11.) Cast - Do That
